What about Ehrhoff???

I haven't seen him mentioned once on here. He's a free agent and is exactly what our PP needs.

I know we have Erixon and MDZ but there's no guarantees there. Besides even if those two pan out, that would just leave us with a surplus. A surplus is always a good thing. Imagine that...a surplus at something that's been a weakness since Leetch left. I like the sound of that. I say we should look into bringing in Ehrhoff.

I believe left even strength, although I'm not 100%.

On the PP he goes to the right to unleash the one-timer.

I apologize, but did you see him in the playoffs at all, or at least during the finals. The guy is garbage on the pp and cost Vancouver 2 shorthanded goals because of his inability to handle the puck. Not ripping on you at all, but I say stay far away because he is going to command top dollar and is not worth it at all.

You haven't seen him mentioned for a reason. He was constantly getting caught flat footed and generally looked pretty slow. Nothing of what I saw of him makes me want him taking up a D spot on this team anytime in the near future, unless it was for MDZ while he was in a massive slump and even then I'd rather see MDZ suited up.

We have a very, very strong and young D core that all looked to already be getting the right influences. IMHO guys like Staal and Girardi are able to give enough guidance to the new comers, not to mention Erixon and Hank are going to be good buddies by default.

The guy had a shoulder injury since game 3 of the San Jose series and you guys are ripping him?

I'd like to have him on the team, but I think he'll be too expensive (4.5-5M) for us. He's decent on the PP.

I agree 100% he was beyond brutal. Between bobbling pucks at the point, losing coverage down low, getting burned 1-on-1, and panicking when making breakout passes he is a big "do not want".

I haven't really seen him play in the regular season, but dude looked AWFUL in the SCF. I'd rather just stick with who we have.

signing guys based on how well/poor they perform in playoffs is never the right thing to do, because it very rarely works out how you think it will.

however, i think we have so many defensemen that it would be tough--unless you had a trade in mind after.

I just think Defense is the last of our worries.
Bringing in McCabe more or less ended the idea for me that a point shot would change everything. McCabe was completel ineffective.

Our Defense is good enough, it manages games and slows offenses.

We need to focus ALL of our efforts on scoring and the faceoff circle.

The Sedins are superstars that put up 90-100 points a year. Erhoff is a bum who rode the Sedins, and is a bit of a defensive liability. He was bad in the regular season as well, I just chose to use the post season as an example

He's a pretty high risk, high reward type of player. I'd probably stay away just based on what he'll end up asking for on the FA market. Don't really want to give a guy like that $6 mill per year or something

No Ehrhoff, no Kaberle.

Ehrhoff is a good player, despite what he showed in the playoffs, but he doesn't fit in here. We need to stop worrying about bringing in more defenders.

is anyone else sick of this phrase? what does it actually mean? it means that if you sign them up you're almost certainly likely end up with a big contract bum. there are better ways to build a team.

if the supposed 'high reward' were so great then you'd sign them up in an instant. it isn't - pass.

Ehrhoff is a good player, but he's inconsistent to say the least. I'm not sure why we're targeting UFA defensemen when we already have a very deep group on the blue line. Makes no sense at all.

Regardless of which side he plays, Erhoff would be a valuable addition to any team. The problem is what player loses their spot?

Well, it's kind of another way to say inconsistent.

He can provide offense, has a huge shot, overall isn't quite as bad as people are making him out to be in this thread...but basically you end up with a guy who can put up some points, but will also cost you goals because of his inconsistent defense.

So the trick is deciding if the good outweighs the bad. But I don't like those kind of players as UFA's because they always end up getting a ton of money

I would think they are going to go for Ricahrds, Sign RFA's , bring back Feds , let Gilroy and rest of UFAs walk

That should fit the cap

I just don't see space for a top end D man unless they cant get Richards and plan B is to sign a D man and winger

I also am fine with the young D as is. Let Erixon, DZ, Valentenko battle it out for the last few spots
