so next offseason with the new TV deal we can expect the Cap to be near 70 million?
What is the point?

I'm not sure I'd assume it will jump that much, but unlike previous years they have guaranteed revenue from TV coming in... and you'd assume that it is a better deal fiscally than the split deal they were doing before.

I assume that at some point they're going to need to just stop the cap from rising so much.

yeah I get the splitting of money part of it. Wouldnt you think the higher the cap the more and more we seperate the haves from the havenots?
Some teams seem to barely want to spend to the cap floor.

Here is Flyers Salary for 2011-2012...

http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Te...ary_cap_thou=4

If you trade Kris Versteeg ($3,083,333), and Jody Shelley ($1,100,000) (or send him to AHL), Ian Laperriere to Injury reserve ($1,166,667) and send Michael Leighton to AHL ($1,550,000)

Flyers salary will be 52,100,000 and we will have 11,900,000 caps space. We have enough cap space to sign all our RFA, Ilya Brygalov and Ville Leino. We will also get to keep Matt Carle for at least one more year. If we really want to win it all next year we will need Matt Carle in Flyers uniform. He is very much underrated. He could be #2 Defense player in 29 out of 30 NHL teams.

Ilya Brygalov - 5,000,000
Ville Leino - $2,500,000
Sean O'Donnell - 1,000,000 (If Flyers wish to resign him) OR Daniel Carcillo - 1,200,000 (If Flyers wish to resign him)
Andreas Nodl - $950,000
Darroll Powe - $850,000

We will still have close to $1,400,000 (give and take) under the Salary Cap for next year

I hope Paul Holmgren see this message before he makes any more moves!
No need to ship Versteeg, just don't re-sign Leino. If you want extra cap space, trade/waive Shelley. This is still great news, providing Bryz's asking price doesn't rise with it.

I would take Leino over Versteeg any given day. Plus Leino is much better player than Versteeg. I would trade Versteeg for a 1st / 2nd round pick and sign Leino for $2-$3 Million/year.

Chris, you make valid points however I would venture to bet that Versteeg had twice the ice time as Leino

I'm not Versteeg's biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination but before he was acquired it was heavily speculated, on here at least, that Leino was after around 3.5 million. If that's the price, I'd rather have Versteeg and hopefully a healthy Versteeg to. Leino could quite easily get that on the open market as the free agent market isn't too great this summer for forwards.

Calling Versteeg a playmaker is a joke.

Sweet. I still say we trade Carle.

Leino too. Let Carcillo and O'Donnell walk and use all that leftover money for others.

raising the floor

panthers have to spend like 30M to reach the floor. you can add a few more to the mix, per teams that need to spend, Phoenix, and my neighbours winnipeg. the ball is in homers court, pick and choose, either versteeg or carle. the article stated the flyers make out well with this because in some trades in the past, when we were in cap troubles, shipping out a contract and tossing in a draft pick to get the deal done. now in the current situation whatever guys with $$ contracts will be a hotter commodity and we will receive, not give up draft picks.

Heres an updated breakdown. With Leighton in the minors and Lappy on IR we have a total commitment of 54.01 mil for 8 Forwards, 6 Defensemen, and 2 goalies, leaving us with 10 mil for our remaining RFA's and UFAs who are:

UFAs
Leino, Ville
O'Donnell, Sean

RFAs
Nodl
Powe
Voracek
Simmonds
Carcillo

IMO it will be something like 3.0-3.5 for Leino(or possibly someone like Upshall), 2.0-2.5 for Voracek, 1.0-1.5 for Simmonds, 1.0-1.5 Nodl, .9-1.2 Powe. Bringing us right to the cap but with a full 21 man roster.
