Keith Ballard stays a Canuck for the 2011-12 season.

*NOTE: this might be a duplicate thread, I posted it but the thread never appeared so I'm posting it again.

To try and quell the Ballard trade offers flying all over the place here are some quick points:

- Gillis has repeatedly stated that Ballard is a big part of the team going forward. Gillis is known for being honest and blunt with the public.

- Ballard's value is at a low after a down season. Trading him now would be an incredibly stupid move as the value garnered wouldn't even break even with the value that was traded for him.

- Off years happen, look no further than Bieksa. Look what one year did to his value, he's now among the top 3 most wanted defenseman (Bieksa, Pitkanen, Ehrhoff).

- Further going off the KB point, Bieksa was able to be kept because the Canucks had an injury on defense (Salo) and some other salary had been dumped (O'Brien, Bernier). This year is a similar situation, Dan Hamhuis will be unavailable until November and will most likely start the season on LTIR meaning there's a need and room for Ballard.

- The cap going up almost $5M ensures that the Canucks, along with many teams, are not in cap strapped positions any longer and don't really need to move Ballard to hold the team that made the Finals together.

- Ballard has kept a positive attitude all throughout the year and has been an great voice in the locker room. For example, Chris Tanev credits his early success in the NHL to Keith Ballard calming him down.

- Gillis has stressed defensive depth in the last few years and look at the improvements in the team thus far. It's doubtful he gets rid of some any time soon and even more doubtful that Ballard could be packaged for an upgrade.

All in all, it's difficult coming to a new team with new teammates in a new conference. We saw it when Andrew Alberts struggled early on with the Canucks after coming from Carolina.

Ballard has had to fight this adjustment period while being injured as well.

He had a tough year, but he's a pretty good player. I watched him even before he joined the Canucks, he's got a great pass but hasn't been able to use it much as of yet, I attribute this to his tentativeness and lack of chemistry with his teammates due to injuries and lack of ice time.

These are all things that a simple year of regular play with the team can solve.

Plus he's already had quite a few positive effects on the team. Helping to bring Tanev along as well as spreading the hip check disease throughout the Canucks defense which has set up for quite a few highlight reels.

So seriously, before you decide to package one of the Canucks top prospects in order to shed Ballard's salary, consider the above points and perhaps revise your gameplan.

I'd bet some vcash that Ballard starts and ends the 2011-12 season with the Vancouver Canucks.

When the coach calls up Nolan Baumgartner and would play him over Ballard in a game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, it means either the coach or Ballard goes.

His contract will be hard to swollow for some teams

maybe the Panthers take him back to get to the floor

but he is done in Vancouver--

Yep. The coach and the team don't really fit together. Gillis wants skill and AV wants grinders.

AV sounds like Holmgren if he was a coach .

for those blaming AV---there was scuttlebutt in Florida that he had lost a step and was slipping down their depth chart
