Just wondering how many of us on here still collect cards or have collected them in the past...I started collecting in the late 80's/ early 90's but stopped when I got older...I have just about every Ed Belfour, Dominik Hasek and Jeremy Roenick rookie card there is plus the entire roster of the 1991-92 Cup team (even Ray Leblanc, how many remember that guy?) I'd love to start again and collect the 09-10 Cup winning team though...that'd be a good way to remember that squad.
I collected a lot from 1992-96, then got bored and start spending my money elsewhere. I remember buying packs of 12-26 cards for a quarter to a dollar each, then they dropped to single digits per pack and (at least) doubled in price. Barely got any over the next 15 years (only recently got my first Kane and Toews, but sort of started up recently because of eBay, and have been sorting and going them for the last couple of weeks.
Thursday, I bought a box for $20. It came today and it had 2271 cards inside (10-12 pound box of assorted, almost all from 1990-93), 2240 being hockey cards, w/ 30 baseball and 1 basketball one sneaking in.
It had this Jean Ratelle card from 1980, except the part where his name goes is blackened over. Huzzah for error cards.
And yes, I got Ray LeBlanc's 1992 Score card that calls him a top prospect. Can't find a good picture of it online.
i still collect going back to the same time period as you. you can find some really good deals on ebay, or if you live in the Chicagoland area, there will be card shows around periodically. Beckett Magazine lists the shows in the back.
