If Chicago's in it, it might kill my interest in the game. Give me the Devils, or Montreal, or anyone interesting who hasn't already been in it and might be considered a rival.
The Winter Classic has already become a joke. I don't want to see the same teams in it every 2-3 years; it's rapidly becoming less interesting for me.
Honestly, I'm disappointed the Flyers are in it again so soon. Am I looking forward to seeing it (and hopefully going to it)? Sure, it's cool to see my team. But it's bad for the event and for the league.
How many times are Pittsburgh/Chicago/Washington/us going to be in it every 2-3 seasons before it just kills how special it is?
It should be an event to showcase everyone in the league, not just a handful of big markets. I understand the networks want it that way, but at a certain point the NHL needs to showcase what it has and protect its integrity, not just ***** itself out and ruin the one big ticket marketing thing it actually got right in the last several years.
The Devils still draw in decent ratings. Not like the Rangers, obviously, but still something. If you want the chance to promote them in national spotlight while still keeping the game as a division rivalry, this would be a good opportunity for the Devils.
Then again, their name has never been mentioned in any Winter Classic, as far as I can remember. Maybe they're adamant about not participating in it. Who knows?
Also, I completely understand the Rangers reasoning behind it and don't blame them.
I wish they would wait for July 1 for the schedule. The BoG is meeting today to approve the relocation of the Thrashers to Winnipeg, and there was all of his hoopla about "OMG BUT WE MADE 8 SCHEDULES, NONE OF WHICH INCLUDED WINNIPEG IN THE WESTERN CONFERENCE"
