Campbell to TOR?

Would you guys do this trade, even with the salary cap going up?

To Toronto: Brian Campbell, CHI 1st
To Chicago: Mike Komisarek, BOS 1st

We take on salary and get a better pick, you get years off and less of a cap hit.
Komisarek is a very good DFD if he is paired with a good partner, if not he is ****.
He would be an excellent 3rd pairing Dman with the Hawks I'd say.

With the cap going to 64 mil, the Hawks are fine keeping Campbell. I wouldn't trade him for Komi straight up, let alone downgrading our 1st round pick. No thanks.

I wouldn't, but I'm a pretty big Campbell fan and more so now if the cap goes up. His +20's are earned the hard way. A lot of guys think he's not that good on D but he's so good at keeping us on the other side of the ice and at puck retrieval (especially near the point) that we don't see him in the defensive zone that often. Keep him.

Why would we take an inferior player and a lower draft pick if the salary cap just went up?

Oh lord, do not get me started on how horrendous Komisarek is.
What's his contract? $4.5M per year? He's overpaid by about $3.5M.
Campbell is overpaid by $1.5-2M... max.

It's just not worth it. Campbell is at least pretty damn good... Komisarek is far from that.

LOL, not a chance. The cap keeps going up, making Campbells contract easier to keep.

OP says he's good if paired with a good partner, and then says would make a good 3rd pairing d man... Depends who's on our 3rd pair, but it isn't gong to be Duncs or Seabs, so there goes the minimal chance he'd be good.

Living in Toronto and having to suffer through watching most leaf games, I find it much more enjoyable when he's not on the ice.

No way, Jose. You'd have the sweeten the offer a lot more for that trade to even be considered by Chicago, especially after the boost in the cap space we have now.

As with many long term contracts that seem really large early on, if the player keeps playing strong they become much more reasonable as years pass and caps increase. Some might think Campbell is still overpaid given the new cap but he was a top defensemen on our team this past year (I think he played better day in and out than Keith) and I do not see him leaving for any one....anyone realistic.

Nope, would not trade Campbell if bad money is coming back. And BTW, OP offer is brutal.

Campbell has better value as a player, even with that contract, than Komisarek. With the cap going up to 64 mil, it makes it a bit easier to trade his contract and get decent value from it. Komisarek isn't decent value and we immediately leave a glaring hole on our 2nd pairing. We'd then have to spend around 3+ mil to get a decent replacement and we end up paying the same amount anyway.
