The incentive is there, but the Devils would probably just endure the season and make a splash in FA next year.
Everyting you've said is valid. My reasoning for this was the fact that NJD could use some cap relief (would Zubrus be more enticing than Salvador), and that they could need help right away (to be a contender in this last years of Marty), wich they get in form of Liles who is in my mind a type of player that they lack (PMD, that's solid defensivly).

Isles give up the 5th and 34th..... and get the 11th and Zach Parise? Is there a ski mask and gun involved? Maybe some vaseline and two ball gags for the other parties involved?

Oh god.

Tavares, Parise /= Johnson .. that's the first problem.

The second problem is that this trade would never occur...

NJ and NYI run with this and never look back or pick up any calls coming from Colorado.

Colorado gets skinned. HOLY SANTA CLAUS S***

And believe me, every single one of us would rather suck it up and deal with Rolston and Salvador's contracts for one more year, rather than give up the fourth overall pick just for the sake of dumping them.

Zubrus is a tough decision to be honest. His contract isn't a good one, but at the same time, we love what he brings to the table and don't particularly want to move him.

I wouldn't expect the Devils to package Parise or the 4th overall pick in an attempt to move salary. Yes, to dump salary you need to provide valuable assets, but Parise and the 4th are just too valuable to us. The only way either one gets moved in a salary dump package (the 4th overall more likely than Parise, of course) is if a bonafide D-man is coming back. The 4th overall could also be used in a trade down for more picks, but I don't see that going past Ottawa and their 6th overall.

From NJD POV: Parise>EJ, 4th>5th, idk avs lets ask the isles
From NYI POV: Parise>5th, 11th>35th, hehehehe PROFIT

OK, i get it. But could you please tell me what do you think about Liles, just curious because it seems to me that he's underrated on the east coast.

Seriously... Avs give up the 11th (not the 12th) and Johnson to move up to 4th and then get a second rounder as a band aid? No freaking way.
My thoughts exactly.

Dear God, no way in heck the Avs do this!!!!! Wow... just wow. TERRIBLE.

Oh, yeah, and we're gonna Parise within the division, too. Maybe we should trade him to the Rangers for Dubinsky.

Erik Johnson is a huge part of our future and we value him higher than any pick in the draft.

From an Islanders standpoint that is highway robbery, even if you don't include the 11th pick. not that I see the trade happening but it makes more sense

Colorado: Parise and 4th
New Jersey: EJ and 2nd

This is more fair but no thanks. If we wanted scoring, we wouldn't have traded away Stewart and Shattenkirk for EJ.

If Avs somehow decide to deal EJ, why wouldn't they just ship him out to EDM for 1st overall, then draft Larsson and Landeskog, and suck for another year to get Yakupov.

Still pretty awful. EJ hasn't even shown he can be a consistent #1, and the Avs paid way too much for him to deal him so quickly, and he isn't worth anything near Parise + The Avs wouldn't be happy losing EJ and not being able to draft Larsson.

And we love when Colorado fans try to say "We trade Johnson, we better get back Parise/Tavares".

Really? No.
