No one wanted Feds last year. He came to camp as a tryout and earned a contract, making 1 mil. Part of what made him so valuable last year was that he out-produced his cap hit. So should he get a bump? Perhaps. But he's still a guy who could have been without a job last year. Giving him a 2 year deal gives him security. There are no more big paydays in his future, so if he can get 2 years @ 1.25 mil per year, he will take it.

I think that's more than fair for both sides.
3.5 million two year contract is what Sather will sign him for. Or he will sign for 2.2-2.5 elsewhere. No one should take last summer situation into consideration. He had a down season with Bylsma. Different coach brought different result. Thus, it might not be a player problem. Something along that logic...

He won't get that from anyone. Prospal had 58 points for us 2 years ago and re-signed with us for 1 year @ 2.48 mil, 1.4 of that in bonuses (there is no bonus cushion this year).

Fedotenko made 1 mil last year. He made 1.8 mil the year before on a 1 year deal with pittsburgh. He's 32 years old. He had 25 points last year in 66 games (prorated to 31 points over 82 games). He had 30 points in 80 games under Bylsma. If that was a down year, then this year with the Rangers was too.

1.5 mil is the absolute most he will get.

As it is with most players like Feds (older role players) the discrepancy is likely more to do with years as opposed to money. He knows he's not going to test the market and earn more than $1.5MM per year. My guess is he wants 3 years and the Rangers are offering 1 or 2.

2 years is reasonable for a guy who is a warrior like feds. hes a valuable role player who can move up and down the lineup.

torts likes him. he plays a good dependable torts type game and he seems like a money player which i like.

we wont get him on a 1 year deal. 2 years seems more than fair. better cap hit and gives him a sense of comfort.

if he goes in the crapper, we move him and his affordable contract.

Yes, thats another thing. Come down the stretch if hes still himself and the Rangers are out of it, thats definitely a guy you can unload to a contender given his playoff rap sheet. This year or next.

Funny, I seem to remember outrage when we brought him in for tryouts last fall. More garbage 3rd-4th liners?

I hear ya, I wouldn't suggest league-minimum, but less than 2 mil per I could live with, personally. As long as they aren't also planning to give any other of the UFAs money.

I can live with that, but nothing more in terms of years or pay. I know he has a good playoff track record, but both the Bolts and Pens fanbases couldn't wait to get rid of the guy. Maybe Torts can keep him playing like the way he did last year, but I'm still very wary of him.

Fine with 2 years at less than 1.5 per he really helped round out our bottom pairing and was noticeable in almost every game he played.

Feds is to produce hits, not points. After this season bone crushers are in big demand. He will get over or just 2 million job in this league. No one would give him two years, though. That is where Sather could save. Me, I'd rather say good luck to the guy. Too expensive and rightfully so.

I think they get him resigned before July 1st to help lure Richards into the fold. Surely they were buddies during their Cup year.

Hmmm... is Pavel Kubina going to be in our future?

This is great news.2-3 yr deal,I would love.Next Prospal. This team finally has 2 real deal vets, who take minimul pay to play where they like and it shows shift by shift.Feds and prosp are 2 great examples of veterans with knowledge of what its like to be a winner and leadership and what these NYR kids need to be around.

i think it has to do with his role. I think Pitt was playing him in the Top 6, when this year it was proven that on an energy/checking line he's very effective.

Yup, which is why he'll be paid as such. He'll get a small bump with the security of a 2 year deal.

One thing with Feds is that his last five contracts have been one year deals. Coupled with Sather's penchant for handing out too many years, I wouldn't be shocked to see Ruslan end up with even three years. If he trades money for years, that wouldn't be the worst thing ever.
