I love and rather have north americans players too but saying you want the Wiz over Pitkanen simply because the other one was born in Finland is just dumb and racist.

Larose is streaky. Jokinen not worth the money (unless it's Oli Jokinen ). Pitkanen if Markov doesn't return.

Next off season Moen and Spacek come off and Moen's salary drops by a lot, making him easier to trade if we need to.

If we walk into the season with Markov, Subban, and a defenseman from that list? We are going to be contenders and could potentially do serious damage if we can remain relatively healthy. I'm 100% sure of it, and it just cements the fact even further if PG decides to add a solid Top 6 F(or even Top 9 who can fill in for Top 6 in an injury situation; think Upshall/Cole) then we in unbelievable shape.

Just bring in Cole. If he plays for us the same he used to play against us, then he'd be a 100 points player.

I am usually in the camp that wants to add size and toughness but I am a fan of Larose...

He is small but is often first in on the forecheck (when I see him, admittedly not often), and has great speed. He had a bad plus-minus rating last year but, to me, I still see him as a Martin/Habs style of player

I certainly wouldn't make him a priority but would throw Halpern money at him (maybe to a max of 2 mil) if he was around a few weeks into the UFA period...

Good playoff guy if memory serves.

I just read this article. What do you guys think of those four guys (Jussi Jokinen, Erik Cole, Pitkanen and Chad Larose)?

I could see a Jokinen or Larose playing on our third line if they are avaible july first.

I specialy think that larose could be good for us. Good depth player.

So what do you guy think?
What does the article say? Are they all leaving the Hurricanes??

Even then, if you expect a 52 point forward to sign for $2 million, then I do not know what to say. Kostitsyn signed for $3.25M for one year, as a RFA, after a 45 point season. Drew Stafford signed for $4M per year after a 52 point season.

And you want to sign Jokinen for $2M? Especially on the open market?

I just think we need to target a LD more than a RD, that's ultimately my reasoning behind it. Subban-Gorges-Weber are natural RDs for us (Gorges I consider a natural despite being left-handed, he plays flawlessly there) and we still have Spacek who CAN play there and Yemelin who by all reports can also play both sides. The left side looks like Markov-Gill-Spacek-Gorges, Gorges IMO fills out the right side very well and Gill and Spacek both belong on the 3rd pairing LD slot. My reasoning for Bieksa over Wisniewski is just that he's slightly bigger and slightly tougher. Kaberle could jump as high as #3 in my rankings, all depending on salary being commanded.
It's not because Gorges was stuck playing RD with Gill that he's a natural RD. As far as I know he had always played LD before that. You say he played well there, but I'd rather see him on his natural side (which is left) and with his knee in good shape, see if he can't be even better than he was.

I'd actually be excited for the first time in a while if we could add a strong top 4 guy on D. The O doesn't need much help. We have 8 guys who can play on a offensive top 9, not counting Pouliot. If we find we need someone we can always get a rental on offense at the deadline.

Ummm Pitkanen, Markov, Subban and Gorges is a great top 4. Gill, spacek are a luxury for a bottom pair. We'd have the best D in the league by a lot IMO. And with Price back there, *drool*.

Considering that these guys could have as many as 29 teams who may show interest - expecting the Habs to sign any of them may be a longshot at best.

Also, you have to factor in Habs GM, Pierre Gauthier - generally a status quo GM who - if he acquires a player, would rather over-pay (giving up a better player than he is receiving) or give up a draft choice to acquire a player's contract!

Why get a player for 'nothing' when you can give something up for him?

And what if this is.....as good as it gets (for the Habs)?

.
He's been playing the right side for the better portion of 2 seasons and he's established himself as good #4-5 guy playing there. Not saying he can't play better on the left, maybe he can, just saying he's had his best years on the right side be it when he was paired with Gill or with Markov (when Komi was injured).

If we bring back Wisniewski or sign Bieksa, Gorges will likely have to shift to the left side to balance out the pairings anyways.

Erik Cole is a no brainer for this team. If it isn't obvious to Gauthier, he should be fired.

For what it's worth, Pitkanen is a notorious headcase. Spent his entire time in Edmonton living in a hotel with his mother. Not a fan of the spotlight it would seem. So luring him to Montreal doesn't really seem to be in the cards.

Larose looks better than he really is because (for some reason) he plays practically the entire season next to Eric Staal. Not really someone I'm jumping at the bit to bring here.
