You're probably looking at the $59.4 million salary cap, not the new $64 million one.
gorges at 2.2? yeah right. good one.the Gauthier throws out money his minimum 3. BTW you have markov at 5 million on your mock line up

i agree it is a little much. considering he hasnt playe in such a loing time and another hit might take him out again. but he is a dangerous player everytime he is out the ice.
There's really no argument that this is a little much.
If he gets through a big injury again, his salary comes off, and its another one to his knee, then he might have to consider retirement.
If it's a small injury, then no biggy.
If he's healthy then he'll be great.
I love markov, but I really though the max he woud get is 5. really, maybe im naive. totally thought he would take less considering his previous 2 years

Well at least he wants to play here . he could test the market and get 6M+. I was hoping he would take 5M, but realistically i thought he would want his previous pay. I don't think he should get a cut because he got injured. maybe if he got injured AGAIN or he shows he can't play at a slightly above par level then I would want him to take a paycut. but at 5.5M I think its a bit of a bargain.
Didn't want more than one year, but I can deal with two. Steal if healthy.
The ideal for us would have been 1 year, but there was no way he'd sign for that. 2 is still a great number for us. If **** happens again, well we'd only have in mind that there's only 1 year left....that's much better than to think that there's 3 more....iykwim (can you actually use that in english to say "If you know what I mean"????

He's still great and all, but people are acting like (if true) he took millions less.
Its not so much that he took millions less, maybe somebody would have offered up to $6.5M, I dont know, but I think he would have gotten an extra year or two from another team. The risk isnt in his blowing out his knee again in terms of money, because then I think insurance would kick in and he would not count against the cap. I see the risk in him not returning to form. Even there, if he has lost a step, this guy has tremendous hockey sense, vision, super puck skill, so I would still see him as being able to be a top defeceman . The 2 years is great for the Habs because if all goes well, Markov will be 34 when he next becomes a UFA and so we would not get stuck with the 35 year old rule like the Spacek contract biting us if we sign him again after that ( assuming no change under the CBA), but I stand to be corrected on this point. I will say I hope we do try to sign the Wiz because if Markov does blow out a knee again , we are doomed with only PK being able to be counted on to move the puck and generate offense from the blueline. I know people will point to Weber, but he needs to focus on his defensive play first, otherwise I fear he might put up points but have a horrible plus/minus and mess up his development.
