Well the "tough, BC boy" comment was unnecessary. I just don't think Gorges is worth 3M. At most he's worth Gill-type of money at the moment.

he is better than gill. The only thkng that might hurt him is that he is rfa and cant go anywhere. I still believe he will get 3

Deal apparently not done, according to MA Godin but I still trust Tony an believe the principle of the deal is there and both sides have agreed, but nothing is written in ink yet.

Well I didn't necessarily mean they are similar players, just that they have a similar impact on their teams. Quiet around the league, but can play 20 mins and excel in defensive situations.

Gorges could get between 2-3M in Mtl and thats his price tag. 3-4 season will be perfect for us!

but Gorges>Gill

Yeah, I get what you mean. Was just saying Gleason does do better at hitting and he is very tough. Might be able to get Gorges for less, as I'm sure in talks Gleason will come up.

The risk isnt in his blowing out his knee again in terms of money, because then I think insurance would kick in and he would not count against the cap. I see the risk in him not returning to form. Even there, if he has lost a step, this guy has tremendous hockey sense, vision, super puck skill, so I would still see him as being able to be a top defeceman . The 2 years is great for the Habs because if all goes well, Markov will be 34 when he next becomes a UFA and so we would not get stuck with the 35 year old rule like the Spacek contract biting us if we sign him again after that ( assuming no change under the CBA), but I stand to be corrected on this point. I will say I hope we do try to sign the Wiz because if Markov does blow out a knee again , we are doomed with only PK being able to be counted on to move the puck and generate offense from the blueline. I know people will point to Weber, but he needs to focus on his defensive play first, otherwise I fear he might put up points but have a horrible plus/minus and mess up his development.
Being the best UFA dman (imo), potentially 6.5 as people want to give it to Ehrhoff. The injury should play a role in his contract talks. Though, I hope we get him signed.

MAG just tweeted from Meehan that no contract done.

Deal was not done with the Thrashers going to Winnipeg.....and it happened. I doubt Tony will be that far off.

Of course the agent will deny until it is made official.

I fully believe this will get done.

The essentials make sense and they've probably been discussing this for awhile now. I think its highly likely that at some point soon we're going to see a 2-3 year 5.5-5.75 deal.

$50 says Markov signs. I don't care if the deal isn't "officially" done...If a sports guy goes on and says "deal is done, 100%", then the deal is done. I bet it's for 2 years $5.75 mil too.

It's never done until it is done, but I'm sure it is close if Tony says so.

It wouldn't be the first time Marinaro says something false/that doesn't happen

I'm pretty sure Markov will sign though

Great signing. 2 years at no raise is basically a hometown discount. Hopefully it's also a sign that Markov feels confident he'll be negotiating a new contract two years from now.

Marinaro is pretty reliable, I doubt he'd throw out something completely false when we will see the outcome in about a week. Hes not that dumb. Good signing exactly what I expected him to get.

5.75 million per is a nice payment to Markov by the Habs considering the health issues. I like it isn't long in case of possible injuries, the salary I hope reflects on what a healthy Markov can do on the ice when he is on!

Gorges next, then the minor signings...and potential UFA or trades.

If the total for Markov is confirm, it leaves enough for another high price defenseman and top 6 forward. Another top defenseman will eleviate Markov and PK. Less minutes means less probability of injury. Would also give us one of the top defense core in the league. With Price in nets makes us contenders.

Wished it was longer even despite the injuries but I'm still very happy about this deal.
