Allegedly there's going to be a press conference in 10 minutes or so to introduce Dwayne Casey.

I love this guy already. DEFENCE, DEFENCE, DEFENCE! that's what he's all about. Will allow the players to call their own plays offensively, but in his words" will be a control freak, and hands on about the defensive side. He used hockey video to show the Mavs about how tough he wanted them to play against Miami and to be physical in the paint.

I really want Kemba..

Oh, and I love the Casey hiring, although I would have been perfectly fine with Lawrence Frank as well.

Anyone that can teach some defense is fine by me. I personally like Casey more, but Frank would have been fine as well, although I just don't like him for some reason.

If he's down to 4 players a guard, a small forward, and two bigs.

Who you guys think the list is?
Bigs - Kantar - Valanciunas/Biyombo god I hope not
SF- Jan Vesely or Leonard
G -Walker/Knight

I'de love to have Kantar but if he's gone and I expect he will be I wouldn't hesitate on taking Walker. Trade Bargs if they can and a front court of Kantar and Davis looks pretty good imo.

Val/Biyombo
Leonard
Knight

Hoping for Knight or Val. Or Kemba if both those guys are gone.

Watching BC's interview, the way he keeps talking about an inside defensive presence, I wouldn't be surprised if he chose Biyombo.

Who's to say it's not Kemba?

G- Walker
SF - Vesley
bigs - Valaciunas, Biyombo.

I've read that teams are becoming less and less thrilled with Kanter as time goes. Then again, there's been a lot of trepidation about Biyombo's black hole lack of offence too.

Everything I've read seems to think the Raps definitely have Knight over Kemba.

BC is apparently very high on Knight, Leonard, and Biyombo.

5th would be too high for the latter two, IMO. I'd be more comfortable selecting one of those two closer to 10th overall.

Kemba Walker could be the player dropping in lottery, especially because sources say Toronto (5th pick) and Detroit (8th) will pass on him.

Tony Parker is also available.

The Raptors' hiring of Dwane Casey might affect their draft plans. Casey is a defensive specialist, and when he looks at the Raptors' roster, there isn't much to like on that front. GM Bryan Colangelo has built an offensive juggernaut, but defensively, the Raptors are pretty terrible. That might explain why the team is zeroing in on three excellent defenders -- Brandon Knight, Biyombo and Kawhi Leonard -- at No. 5. I've had Jan Vesely going here for weeks, and others have been pushing for Kemba Walker here, but it sounds like neither player is atop the Raptors' board right now.

interesting read.

the highlights include comparing Kawhi Leonard to Gerald Wallace, Jan Vesley to Andrei Kirilenko, Valaciunas to Alonzo Mourning (?), Bismack Biyombo to Hasheem Thabeet (uuuuggghh...), that other Lithuanian guy (Montejionas or whatever) to Bargnani, Derrick Williams to Glenn Robinson, and Kemba to either DaJuan Wagner or late-career Allen Iverson.

Chad Ford's mock draft 6.0 on ESPN still has the Raptors taking Vesley at 5 (Irving, Williams, Knight, Kanter, Vesley are the top 5 in order)

I'll give my take on the draft.

I really really really don't want the team to draft another European but I think Valaciunas may be the best pick. He's not NBA ready yet but he's got tons of potential, a legit center and from what I've read he is not soft, rebounds well, plays defense though his offensive game needs some developing. He can get put backs and finish around the rim but doesn't have much post skills or the ability to break a defender down one on one. Shoots free throws well.

Knight would be my second choice. Good defender, shoots well, point guard size though he needs to develop a point guard game and work on his passing skills which could happen in time. If he can improve his dribbling and passing skills, maybe he could turn into a Westbrook type player.

Kanter and Leonard would be my 3rd/4th choice... I think they are interchangeable.

If we pick Biyombo, I'll give up on this franchise forever.

If there is a point guard in this draft that I would be extremely skeptical about it would be Knight.
The thing is he had to do most of the scoring. He pretty much had to put the team on his back and haul them to victory. He has that unique ability and I like that. He can do it all, he was just relied for more scoring this year. If we draft Kemba I would be sooooo happy.

Indeed. If there is guys like Knight and Walker left and we pick Biyombo... I just... would die a little.

That's what I'd guess is the list is.

I don't like Vesely or Biyombo. I'm 'meh' to Walker and much prefer Valanciunas.

The only real big issue with Valanciunas is his buy out, apart from that, he doesn't seem have any severe holes in his game. We're not competing next season, I don't see how you can't pick him.

No you're not, I would be ecstatic if we got him. I would guess we would have to give up the 5th pick and possibly put Amir Johnson into the discussion to get him. I know he's almost 30 and is getting a bit older but this guy would give us a legit star PG something we haven't had in a long time. I can't stand Calderon getting beat constantly one on one and Parker would be an upgrade defensively.

Also the trade would work cap wise considering both Parker and Johnson are entering new contracts that are worth 50 million dollars. Maybe we toss them Bayless as well to give them a somewhat adequate replacement for Parker. The two untouchables of course are DeRozan and Davis. No way in hell would I involve both Davis/DeRozan and the 5th overall for Parker.

5th and Amir? We're talking about getting to be a better basketball team defensively and we give up two pieces that would be good defenders (with the reports they're going to draft a defensive player at 5, and Amir being pretty good on D?)

How about Bargnani and 5 to SA for their 1st (if they have one) and Parker?

I would do that. I'm getting sick of Bargnani's game anyway. His lack of rebounding or at least lack of motivation defensively is really bothersome. To be honest other than Davis and DeRozan there isn't much else that I wouldn't give up for Parker.
