Cal O'Reilly re-signed

http://s303.co/m2Btnf

During interview with Jeremy Gover, GMDP lets it slip that they've re-signed Cal.

Rich Peverly... not good enough to keep....waived.... 22 goals
Mike Santorelli...not good enough... traded for late round pick.... 20 goals
Cal O... good enough to re-sign.... 30 goals or 13 goals?

Anyway, he has decent skills, particularly passing, but hard to see exactly where he fits in our current line-up. 3rd line center I guess but who is he passing to and does he bring more to that slot than Goc? Where does he go if Goc is re-signed?

Following this logic.....

O'Reilly for Art Ross We can only hope.

He looked great til he got hurt. Hopeful he fully recovers.

As we saw last year, Forward depth is a very very good thing.

to me this spells the end of dumont or Ward, maybe both.

Maybe we are expecting Goc to not re-sign with us, or maybe Lombardi is done for. Anyway you slice it it's nice to have forward depth.

I figure Dumont is kind of a foregone conclusion....

But this sort of thing (along with the news that they want to resign Goc) makes me think Wardo is definitely on the way out.

If that's the case, best of luck to Joel Ward, hopefully in the Eastern Conference.

I still think Goc is re-signed.

Goc, Fisher, Legwand, and O'Reilly start the year at center. Smithson, Spaling, and Wilson play on the wing. Geoffrion begins in Milwaukee in a top-six role...

Good god. Loving this center depth. Certainly Trotz will have fun messing with the combos.

Peverly was given a lot of top 6 time. I'm sick of all the lamenting of his departure. To be quite honest, he was pretty awful in his time here. He deserved to be waived. The only mark against Poile in that whole fiasco was that Atlanta apparently offered to trade for him at some point during the season. I'm guessing DP tried to pass him through waivers and maintain the asset. It didn't work. The rest is history, but it doesn't change the fact that as a Predator - Peverly failed extensively in the top 6, and he had no place in our bottom six.

Not just that, but with centers playing wing, you know you've got a decent at worst second option at faceoff when those retard linesmen throw one of our boys out of the circle. Gives us a lot of versatility at forward.

I wonder if anyone has tried to catch up with Lombardi since.........about ever. I only remember one piece on him, where a reporter actually tracked him down, and that was like in February....

This is good news indeed. Goodbye JP and Wardo. Now let's re-sign Goc.

ps - I don't dislike Ward, but I do think someone will be paying him some good money.

I like Ward, and his contribution to the team. But at the same time, I think his perceived value (because of the playoffs) will likely exceed his value to us.

I can't dislike Ward, even if he goes to a rival....I just hope he goes to the East, so I can actually cheer him on.

Halischuk probably gets a two-way deal and Geoffrion is still on his EL so we have some portability with our forwards and can look forward to some competition for slots during camp.

So our best faceoffman is going to be playing wing

I would expect O'Reilly to be playing wing instead of Smithson. I really hope we resign goc.

Why not? Everytime the Smithson lines gets in, make sure the center gets kicked out so Smithson can step on in.

Halischuck may indeed get a 2 way deal but I really liked that kid. I hope he can stick around for the long haul. Geoffrion I believe goes back to the Ads for a bit.

This. Why throw away O'Reilly when he flashed so much potential last year. He will be cheap. He will be a bit of a wildcard. He will provide necessary depth. This move was a no-brainer.
