I don't know what is Youtube downloader, but with Download helper, you can choose between all different .mp4 files from a youtube video. 320p, 480p, 720p, 1080p. It also works on every web sites like habs tv http://video.canadiens.nhl.com/videocenter/console
The main problem I see with most fan made videos is the framerate. Now I know this can't be fixed most of the time because the source videos are of poor quality already but in some cases the lack of fluidity can completely ruin a video that had good potential.
I guess my advice to avoid this would simply not to use poor quality footage
I respect people who take the time to make compilations, though. This takes a lot of time and effort
Here's how I get clips to look decent. I use videos that NHLVideo uploads, and I save them on KeepVid.com as mp4's. MP4's are the best file format going these days. I then render my videos as 720p in AVS Video Editor, and apply my visual stuff in After Effects.
On the off-chance I can only get a clip in 4:3 aspect ratio, I'll make it's scale like 125% in After Effects, I am very picky that the video fills the entire Youtube video screen, throughout the entire clip.
And I didn't mean to come in with the "oh you didn't do it MY way attitude, therefore it sucks".
I came in with the attitude of, I've seen so many of these clips that they almost frustrate me now. I don't mean to sound so harsh, I just really want the Habs to have a kick-ass Youtube guy, especially when the Leafs have like 5.
