Earlier, they discussed the Erixon trade. Gorton said the Rangers don't like the depth of talent in the 2nd round. They won't find a Stepan or a Thomas in this 2nd round. They were asked a question about trading down and gave the standard answer if makes sense. If they traded out of the 2nd round because they didn't like the players, why would they trade down to add a 2nd round pick? The Rangers staff did mock draft today to figure which players will be available to them at #15 if they're guy is available or other players available at that pick.

I missed most of the stuff about the draft itself

Gorton didn't comment much about Biggs but his body language gave you his answer. He likes Biggs.

Except for the "dark secrets" they occasionally learn, apparently.

I asked about how the Russian Factor affects drafting. I used Tarasenko as an example. He then proceeded to say how it can turn out good with guys like Anisimov and Grachev who are willing. He said there are others that would rather stay in the KHL for more money than play in the AHL for $50,000 a year.

Basically, he said it can be risky, but it's worth it if it pays off. Players already in North America are a safe bet, like Grachev who came from Brampton.

Clark basically said Kreider will turn pro after his junior year. Kreider is taking 4 classes in summer school. Fast track towards graduation. Concentrate on his pro career after his junior year.

Nothing wrong with Kreider wanting his degree. I think Rangers should go send Richter to tutor him this summer.

Taking summer classes is not worth it! I have one week left of classes, and the accelerated-ness (new word lol) is killing me. Good for Kreider though.

Just an FYI, Grachev came over to NA after he was drafted, not before. His first and only season in the OHL was after his draft selection and as Rangers' property.

Oh, I didn't know that. I thought they drafted him after his break-out season in Brampton.

Nope. That's why he was eligible to play in the AHL as a 19 year old.

So why isn't Thomas allowed to play in the AHL at 19?

If a player is drafted out of a junior league he is not allowed to leave to play in the AHL until 2 years after being drafted. He can leave to play in the NHL, but not the AHL.

Thomas was drafted out of juniors.

Grachev was drafted out of Russia and then was chosen in the CHL Import Draft by Brampton in the OHL. Hence, he was not drafted out of the CHL and was able to leave to play in the AHL after only 1 season in Brampton.

Actually, it's until the player is 20 or he's been in the CHL for 4 years. But yes, more often than not, that means 2 years post draft.
