OT: Did MaxPac hit cost Chara the Norris?

Anyone believe this?

As good a season as Lidstrom had, I think most folks believed that Chara was going to win the Norris. Obviously there was a ton of controversy that arose from 'the hit' late in the year and many folks thought he should be punished.

Anyone think it might have had an impact on the voting? It was a close vote this year with Chara getting 33 1st place votes vs. Weber's 32 and Lidstrom's 35. All three were in a tight race.

Was the MaxPac hit a factor in this year's voting?

probably

in the same time Lindstrom is already a legend so he will always have a slight edge over the others

No, it helped him win the Messier Leadership Award though.

Chara was very ordinary the first half of the season..

He wasn't even in my top 3.

Lidstrom
Weber
Visnovsky

I never thought Chara would win, nor that he makes a particularly solid finalist. He's big and good, but not really Norris-good. No really stunning candidates this season in general, though.

I get what you are saying, the results are close, and maybe if the hit did not happen, it could have been different.
But as good as he is, I feel he did not warrant a Norris.
And that's with admitting that Thomas would not have looked as good without Chara as well.

If he had won more faceoffs though...

Very interesting question. And to that extend, if it was the case, it would of hindered his chances to win the Messier trophy also. His hit on MaxPac could be viewed as poor leadership.

Chara would not be in my top 3 anyway for the Norris. So if I had came up with the OP's question it would of been moreso about the Messier award rather than the Norris.

Chara had a lot better playoffs than Lidstrom, and he'd much rather have a championship ring than a Norris Trophy. As for his hit against Pacioretty, that might have been a defining moment that saved the entire season for the Bruins because the presence of Pacioretty might have been enough for the Habs to eliminate the Bruins in April.

First half of the season many fans were disappointed in his play. He got a lot better the 2nd half, but it definitely wasn't enough to garner serious consideration, at least from me.

It was a strong hockey play so probably helped him.

Seriously though, look at his stats after that game lol.

Nope.

If you believe Bruins fans, Chara's comeback from that devastating hit and the emotional and physical toll the whole ordeal took on him was nothing short of miraculous. He was the real victim in all of this. He should have won the Norris just for having the fortitude and perseverance to endure it all.

Thankfully, not all of the voters are Bruins fans.

Well it was tough on him, what with having to endure Patches tweets (the faker!)

Shouldn't he have won the Masterton then?

Without knowing the vote results, I'd say No. I'd expect him to be 3 or 4 on the list.

I think Weber was the rightful winner. They gave it to Lidstrom because they already had the trophy engraved and it was too late to change anything

Whatever kept him from getting the Norris I'm glad it did because seeing him win the Cup and the Norris in the same year would be too much to take.

Agreed. I believe Chara is overrated. He is a dominant force thanks to his size, so his PP and physical contribution help, but I don't think he's that solid defensively. When you're 6'9 you shouldn't let little guys like Plekanec skate around you with ease.

I never thought he was worthy of a Norris, not even during his best season.
