They gave up a TON to get him though...

but I agree, short term this makes Columbus tougher. Poile needs to answer with a scoring threat... he really does. You know detroit isn't going to sit back this year, St. Louis can't be unhealthy forever. This division is already really tough.

Going to have to win games 6-5, but maybe it will work for them.

I already had Carter in my other teams division since he came up. He's not that scary. Besides Nash needs a disher and they go out and get a sniper, and they handed Philly a top ten pick. It was a dumb move by Columbus.

I hear ya. Getting Carter for Voracek and the picks is a minor upgrade. Carter has played on a deep Philly team. Let's see what he does with Nash when they're the main cogs and going up against the top pairing defensemen every night. Carter is a good player but it's not like they just added Crosby, it's Jeff Carter. Big whoop. Their D is still average at best and until Mason fixes himself, they have no goalie.

Meh, I would be more scared of Columbus trading for a center like Spezza. Carter is not a real playmaker and both him and Nash are usually looking to shoot. Not a huge upgrade over Voracek and it takes away cap space and some draft picks.

of those two options, the second is quite a bit closer to reality, no matter how derisive you try to be...

Wow, the Predators really could use a guy knocking in 35-45 goals a season.

It really isn't that bad because it's not what they needed. Carter is a pure sniper, even more so than Nash. So now instead of one sniper with noone to pass to him, they have two. That makes them only a smidge better. Besides, with the Wings and Hawks there's far bigger fish to fry.

You're probably right. I mean, our PP rose as high as 24th this year, and if you break it down, we ranked 12th in goals scored from 12:44 to 10:39 of the second period, and I really think this is the season that Tootoo breaks through and scores 12 or 13 goals.

Nash's passing skills are extraordinarily underrated by pretty much everybody.

Not my first choice of deals for Howie to make... but, hey. Jeff Freakin' Carter.

And now richards is in LA.

So the west gets stronger and we will stand pat. This is the year to make a splash. We have SO MUCH to gain. Atlanta fans, NFL lockout, riding the wave of round two, weber suter, rinne. This is the year to do it, i don't care what any of you say.

well, it's not as bad as it could have been. i'd be much more concerned if the BJs got Richards, who I feel is better in every way, but it still stinks that two WC teams got notably better today.

I'm still not all that impressed with Columbus. They got the center they've needed for Nash, but what else do they have? Huselius? I'm comfortable putting our top two pairings out against their top two lines, and our forwards are responsible enough defensively to make up for any slack. Then there is always Rinne. Perry, Getzlaf, Ryan, Selanne didn't scare our guys. I don't think Nash/Carter/Umberger/Huselius is going to make them blink

LA, however, could be ready to make some noise

I like this move for the Jackets. I think Voracek has shown a lot of potential, and he might even turn out to be a .8 ppg player in this league. The 8th overall is a steep draft pick, but it is quite doable. Jeff Carter is a goal scorer with size. He can play a mean game even though he hasn't the past couple of years. His cap hit is very reasonable. The only worrisome part of this deal is injury concerns. With that said, I think Philly did reasonably well in return here. The Predators could have matched the value, but I'm guessing Poile simply did not want Carter.

It may. It may not.

I think right now I'm the only Jackets fan who's actually worried. Everyone else seems to be throwing around confetti and expecting that free agency will be a cakewalk now.

Philadelphia just unloaded a couple of party animals before their NTC's kicked in, plain and simple

So now they have two very good goal scorers and still no one to get them the puck.

(YAWN)

Call me when they get legit D and goaltending.

Me thinks it's make or break time in Columbus, sort of like when Leipold went and got Forsberg. Deep playoff run or it's off to northern pastures.

How can they afford the contracts of Nash, Carter, and Umberger long term if they keep averaging 13k per night?
