M. Richards to LA would be very strange. Especially if its indeed for Shenn and Simmonds +

Cap officially set at $64.3M.

There have to be behind the scenes motives to dealing Richards. That's a strong long-term package for Philadelphia (if it happens) but suddenly they look pedestrian down the middle. That hurts their short-term competitiveness quite a bit and with Pronger/Timonen not getting any younger that's pretty risky.

Done deal, and it's a blockbuster. Phi trades captain Mike Richards to LA for Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds.

Stupid database error...

This was my first thought on the Carter deal... multiplied now if Richards is moved.

Well more partying for Richards in LA.

We should call Philly for Hartnell.

And even then its totally insane.

Maybe Philly is freeing up for Bryz, but also Brad Richards?

Simmonds is a tough SOB as well but not in Richards mold. Philly's pk will suffer a bit. And if Schenn is a player in 3-4 years the deal may be good for Philly. But that's just not good for a team in win now as the Bryz and Pronger contracts say.

Bryzgalov wants to get paid. He's going to replace one of those contracts. Voracek and Simmonds are both RFAs due for solid raises. I dk if they have the room, but I'm not betting against it.

That's all I can think of also but if the reports of Bryzgalov's deal are even remotely true I can't see how they could possibly afford to sign Richards now.

Personally I think the rumored Bryzgalov contract numbers are insane but at the same time I can see why they want to firm up their goaltending and I understand dealing away Carter to free up the cap room to do that. To trade Richards on top of that and not getting a definitely ready scoring line centerman in return is friggin' crazy though.

Flyers are still pretty good though

Voracek-giroux-hartnell
JVR-briere-versteeg
?- schenn-simmonds
Carcillo-betts-powe

Then they have

Carla-pronger
Timmonen-coburn
Meszaros-?

Bryzgalov
Bobrovsky

And they have the 8th overall pick...

That takes balls. Philly decided Carter and Richards wouldn't bring them the Cup and went in a different direction altogether.
