Good job merging this stuff. Sorry to keep posting in other thread.

Definitely ballzy move by Holmgren trying to address the Flyers culture before it got too lax. Trading those two definitely sets the standard for the other young guys.

I would actually like these two moves a lot if they don't sign Bryzgalov (or hadn't traded for his rights in the first place).

They still have tons of talent up front, with Giroux/Briere/VanRiemsdyk/Schenn/Voracek/Simmonds/Hartnell/Versteeg. Imagine if they went into the offseason, singed a moderately priced goalie, and then still had enough room left for Brad Richards. That would be a scary team now, and even more so in the future. If they actually give Bryzgalov that $7,100,000x7year contract, then they're pretty much done adding this offseason. It's definitely a shakeup, but the only thing they have done wrong so far is (allegedly) offer Bryz that absurd contract.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Bryzgalov contract with PHI is done. 9 years, $51 million.

ian_mendes: With the way his deal is structured, Ilya Bryzgalov will be the highest paid player in the NHL next season.

ian_mendes: Bryzgalov will make $10 million next season in the first year of his deal.

Days like these make 'staying the course' look like the right approach.

Btw:

Hartnell - Giroux - Van Riemsdyk
Leino - Briere - Voracek
Versteeg - Schenn - Simmonds

Its not as bad as I thought.

Today will fit the argument for whichever side you believe.

Stay the course: see chi and Philly

Culture change ballz and not standing still: see Philly

A source close to 97.3 ESPN(Philly station) is saying that the Flyers are preparing a very large offer to Steven Stamkos.

Someone remind me again who posted the pics of the Richards and Carter at some bar as a defense to the Green bar pics. Was it NBTW? Not that I thought the Green bar pics were a big deal.
I just find it comical that both were jettisoned by the Flyers.

I wonder if UFAs look at the Flyers differently now that they traded two "career" contracts. It's interesting but trading two core players like those two seems to speak to Philly management not happy with the core of the team. Too much partying, too little getting down to business?

Wonder if McPhee has the talent and stones to pull off a deal like these?

I was wondering this too. I just got home and see the trades and thinking wth. I can't seem to get ot the other trades, but is it true Regehr is going to Buffalo? I'm actually shocked that both Carter and Richards are gone. Lol, wonder what GMGM is dong .

Go Caps!

How awesome would it be if the Flyers totally ruined Tampa's salary structure by throwing 10m at Stamkos?

For those of you who want to use Philly as an example of how to act...there is a poll right now on their board as to whether they're still Flyers Fans and "Yes" only has a plurality.

There are number of reasons these trades and signings are being completely panned on their board.

Not sure what would motivate brad Richards to not waive ntc.

The morons thowing out Yzerman as a genious/model GM would have a lot of backpeddling to do. After all, he let Stamkos get to RFA status...his watch, his problem.

He's set on testing the market, along with the vast majority of UFAs at this point I'd think.

I hope. I have been an avid Flyer hater my whole life, but Tampa Bay is quickly surpassing them. Of course if Philly got Stamkos they would be scarier than if they had kept Richards. At least Holmgren isn't playing games, but I'm sure Bryz is thinking wth.

It's obvious....2/3 of Eastern Pennsylvania has to buy a new Flyers jersey.

You don't trade two core players signed to career type deals without a lot of fan backlash. Personally I think the Flyers realized they had the wrong core guys and overcommitted to too many huge contracts. They're adjusting the roster accordingly.

For me, feel like he doesn't want to screw a team of picks/prospects knowing he won't re-sign with them.
