He did his best for the years he was under contract.

UFA is something that you don't pass on very lightly. Its one of the biggest factors in every contract when discussing term and salary even

very selfish move

I have a feeling he already knows where he's going and doesnt want his next team to lose any assets.

I'm on board with "dick move on Richards' part".

He'll be a UFA, he doesn't have to sign with anybody he doesn't want to. Bring traded to another team doesn't mean he has to sign with them.

How does anyone know that he wasn't asked to waive it to Edmonton or something and he has no intentions of signing with that particular team.

Good for Richards

Joe dropped the ball on this one twice now, not a good way to start off your career as a GM

Everyone calling him an ass, selfish, classless, ect, are wrong. Its likely his agent telling him not to, not Richards. Richards is not a person who would do this for no reason.

It's not a dick move. He's not going to sign with the team who trades for him, which is why he's not going to waive.

Dallas had the opportunity to trade him, but blew it.

I don't blame him for saying no. Why would he help out the team that has already said they have no intention of signing him? He'll take his chances on July 1st, and then he also doesn't screw the team that has traded for his rights.

Maybe he didn't want to play for the team that offered (ie. LA or Columbus), forcing them to switch to plan B and go after one of the Flyers?

Not really. You can't trade someone with a concussion at the deadline. He he refused every other time.

Wouldn't it make more sense if he WAS going to sign with the team they wanted to deal him to?

Yeah...it would be way more classy to waive your no trade and screw a team out of assets...that wouldn't be a dick move at all...smrt

He has a NMC. It's his right to choose not to waive it. Doesn't make him a dick at all.

Because he has no reason to help out Dallas, and/or make a team he will actually sign with worse.

Meh.

Either he pisses off the Stars by not waiving, or he pisses off the team that trades for him by refusing to sign. Six of one, half dozen of the other really.

I thought this was about Mike Richards for a second. That would've been REALLY interesting.

Thanks to the mods for fixing my title, had a little too much wine. Too many damn Richards today.
