Flyers are very close to the 50 contracts limit

Flyers have 50 players under contract until July 1st. It might be why the Versteeg trade hasn't been confirmed yet.

Remember last year when the Thrasers had to trade two minor league players to San Jose to complete the Byfuglin?

It might be a minor issue but it makes things a bit more difficult for Paul Holmgren.

I may be wrong but as Schenn is on an entry level deal and is still playing in juniors his contract doesn't count towards the contract limit, so Philly are at 50 contracts.

Yes. He's also an RFA and the Kings don't intend to re-sign him.

You are right. Schenn's contract didn't count because he played less than 10 games in the NHL and he still is junior age. He still has 3 years left to his contract (His ELC will kick in next season)

We'll be fine, because I'm damn sure we won't keep every single one of these, so we'll have room.

Could this be Philly hinting a big deal with Edmonton?

1st overall for Mezzaros and Schenn! Heck if Philly still feels strapped for cash they can also throw Versteeg our way and they'll have more than enough cap space to resign all their key players and sign a decent #4 d-man!

Update

Flyers are now at 43 contracts for 2011-2012. They qualified 3 RFAs (Kalinski, Simmonds and Voracek) so barring any trade, they only 4 spots left to sign UFAs.
