The reports I have read indicate that the Capitals haven't even made an offer. Even if it's true that Laich has made an offer that is ridiculously high to the Capitals, it doesn't make sense for the Capitals to not offer him a deal at all even if it would be a low-end starting point for negotiations, like 3 years, 7.5m.

Of course, I've become convinced over the years that GMGM doesn't really negotiate, with the biggest evidence being how Huet worked out (initial offer, return offer, wait two months, then finally match his offer the night before July 1st only to hear, of course, that Huet wanted to test the market waters, if I recall correctly).

all signs continue to point to #Capitals not making an offer to Brooks Laich before July 1
Maybe that is the message to the team everyone is clamoring for, 'we aren't even going to make an offer to a long term member of the organization?'

It isn't trading away Semin or Green but it isn't nothing at the same time. Making a legit offer but being outbid and losing him doesn't say much but not making an offer at all definitely does and it they feel they were going to lose him anyway then it might make sense.

I don't know...

Philly trades two #1 centermen, one the freakin' captain, who helped them get to the Finals a year ago but McPhee can't pull the trigger on Green and Semin who bring nothing to the table during crunch time and will be sure to fail us again.

Same ol' same ol' in DC

Their future?

Laich is a multi-tool "glue" type player. They're in YEAR 5 with their "young" players. The future is now unless you're living in some Orwellian hockey nightmare.

watching other teams win because their GM makes more gutsy and smarter moves than yours has lost its appeal, sorry if you take that the wrong way. Remember not to buy your 2nd round playoff tickets in advance, they might become non-refundable the way things are going.

Well seeing as how LA seemed to be a good trading partner and now that they've traded substantial young assets, I don't see many options.

I like this point. You should have it in your signature maybe. But I would better trade them Fehr before you-know-who.

Or it takes them out of the Richards sweepstakes.

Seriously, if the Caps don't sign Laich why not go after BR?

He mentioned wanting to go to a place to win and I'd have to imagine that would give McPhee some leverage over the NYR and Maple Leafs.

Ted will refund them, but nit for cash. Your tickets will be applied toward 20 evenly distributed downpayments on the next twenty regular season tickets.... Good for 100 section only.

That's kind of why I asked "why wouldn't you?".

GMGM has no style, GMGM has no balls, GMGM wants young prospects playing in other leagues. He doesnt care about a cup, thats why Bruce is still here.

Oh I'd at least kick the tires on Brad Richards, but don't know if Washington is high in his list of destinations.

I think there will be more profit for Capitals to sign Cole and Fiddler for the same caphit Carter has than trading for Jeff Carter himself.

Also signing UFA is free of charge.

I mean we need some tweaks more than just trading away Semin. Hell, Flyers traded "their Backstrom". We don't have anyone who can subst him (but PHI has).

But getting one good LD is still needed.

If tomorrow will be this crazy... =) HFB will die again with all its databases.

To me there's no better way to describe him than "underwhelming." He wasn't as good as the Leafs probably hoped, he wasn't as good as the Flyers probably hoped, he won't be as good as his next team probably hopes.

Don't hate him if the cap becomes a non-issue, but if he's your marquee acquisition of the offseason you've done something wrong.

Today sucked because one of the Caps' biggest rivals in the conference got markedly worse? I dont see it. Today was a good day for the Caps.
