Yes, this is true but I would like to see the caps get better.

Rumor is that Bieksa has re-signed with the Canucks. So you can cross his name off the list. Not that we'd get anyone big or useful with GMGM.

I mean we need some tweaks more than just trading away Semin. Hell, Flyers traded "their Backstrom". We don't have anyone who can subst him (but PHI has).

But getting one good LD is still needed.

If tomorrow will be this crazy... =) HFB will die again with all its databases.
I'd rather keep Arnott than sign Fiddler.

If Laich walks and Semin stays I hold McPhee in the same regard as I do Boudreau. If Semin is here at all I probably will, anyways.

I don't mind GMGM. He's a smart guy. Made some decent moves at the TDL the last couple years. He still needs to make those one or two big core team framework moves. The worst though is that thing he pulled on Belanger last off-season -- that was just smelly bad.

I wonder if Laich simply refuses to take any more whiffs, hence his pending departure?

By the way, for those questioning Semin's work ethic he has already started off-season workouts to get ready for next season, he's committed. That's a fact.

Stastny?

Avs are rumored to be considering offers for Paul Stastny.

Avs need a goalie, and are rumored to be looking at Schneider/Bernier.

Caps have a good stable of young goalies, no?

Do you guys see a fair deal for Staz for a package including one of your goalies?

IMO Philly was way too aggressive and lost a lot of their identity. JMO. It may work out at the end, but they lose a lot of toughness, heart, and grit. And they're not going to have much cap space after signing their own RFA's/UFA's unless they make more trades to move cap.

doing something is better than doing nothing when you are desperate to make someone pay for your pain. fire somebody. trade somebody for whatever. spend some big money. show that you are not satisfied.

i understand the desre for heads to roll and so forth. carter paid for the failure. he is marooned in columbus for a long time.

just a one word reminder: nylander. that looked good when it happened and was in the way by the end. bryzgolov can kill that team now. bold works sometimes. more often, though, it blows up in your face

I don't see Avs going for Semin.
Problem is (next to the fact he is Russian) I don't think he would re-sign at the end of the next season and then in the end we traded Stastny and a 2nd just for Varlamov (by the way we do not have a 2nd round pick this year) and a late 1st round pick because there is no real use for Semin this year in Denver since we are not going to be contenders or anything like that.

Ahh thats a lottt, but with our pick being so late and Perrault an RFA who flashes potential but couldn't crack the lineup consistently, it becomes more of a 1st-2nd, Schultz and Neuvirth. It would probably depend on how high they are on Neuvirth.

I'm just not sure if we have the right parts to have a trade for Stastny make sense. As an organization, they avoid Russians (so Semin, one of our better trade pieces, may be of no use, Kuz and Orlov probably won't be traded anyhwhere).

I don't want to be pessimistic, maybe something could be worked out around a goalie for Stastny, but the cost might be prohibitive.

2012 1st?

Better offer than we're seeing from VAN/LAK, IMO.

Take Fehr, man! He is true canadian scorer and won't bolt to the KHL. Change Varly to Neuvy (Varly also has offers from KHL).

Anywhere near fair value?

If McPhee somehow converts Schultz, Neuvirth, #1 (and I'd add even 2012 #1) for Stastny it will be like that:

FORWARDS
Alexander Ovechkin ($9.538m) / Nicklas Backstrom ($6.700m) / Mike Knuble ($2.000m)
Alexander Semin ($6.700m) / Paul Stastny ($6.600m) / Eric Fehr ($2.200m)
Jason Chimera ($1.875m) / Marcus Johansson ($0.900m) / Cody Eakin ($0.637m)
Matt Hendricks ($0.825m) / Boyd Gordon ($0.800m) / Mattias Sjogren ($0.900m)
D.J. King ($0.637m) / Jay Beagle ($0.512m)

DEFENSEMEN
Scott Hannan ($3.000m) / Mike Green ($5.250m)
Karl Alzner ($2.500m) / John Carlson ($0.845m)
John Erskine ($1.500m) / Dennis Wideman ($3.937m)
Tyler Sloan ($0.700m)

GOALTENDERS
Braden Holtby ($0.637m) / Semyon Varlamov ($1.500m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $60,697,350; BONUSES: $160,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $3,602,650

That'd be so genius that it can't be.

PS: MP free of charge. We don't have space for him anyway.

PPS: There are 5 centers in the bottom-6 btw: MJ, BG, Beagle, Eakin and Sjogren. That's your center depth.

Pssst, C Derrick Brassard in CBJ is likely available now...probably for a top six d-man (Schultz?).

6'1", 200lbs | 74GP 17+30=47 | $3.2M cap hit
