Their two best defenseman are 36 and 37, they are supposed to be in a win now mode and traded 2 of their top 3 forwards away.
Not only that, but Timmonen is a shadow of what he was even 2 years ago. Right now Markov & Subban are both light years a head of him, an argument could even be made that Hamrlik is better than Timmonen at the moment. His fall from grace has not been kind.
So what's the cap situation for Montreal now? And with how many players left to sign? Any idea on what Gorges will get?
looking at PG's track record here Gorges should get about was he was making for 2-3 years with no proof he can contribute, I know I seem hard-a$$. Not faulting the guys, but sometimes even if the mind is willing, the body can't & that thought process doesn't win Stanley Cups.
Markov is a great D man and nobody will debate that. I would say top 5 in the NHL, however because of his injury issues I am kind of suprised that the Habs would go with a 3 year term. I hope he has 3 healthy years and is able to play at the same elite level that we are used to seeing from him.
We could've gotten a discount. No we should've... but hey if Marky can play 2 seasons out of those 3, it's good value.
The cap has gone up how much since he signed his deal in 2007? About 10 million? His level of play increased as well, when he wasn't hurt. When you take his injuries into account, I think it's fair. He took a paycut, really.
He would have got over 6M on the open market, IMO.
