Eklund:

On the Leafs...

I am told to look out early tomorrow morning....the Leafs may pull the trigger on one of the biggest deals the team has ever seen. "Bigger than Phaneuf. Way bigger." I was told. The names to look for Parise, Stamkos, andbelieve it or not... Eric Staal.

Eric Staal, who has thought of that one?

He's so stupid it hurts.

Because one GM traded a major cornerstone -- something that never happens -- now 3-4 other GMs are also on the verge of losing their minds. Stay tuned!

He crossed my mind actually but Eklund stole my thunder before I could spit out a reason.

If I were Burke, that's what I would try to do. Let's face it, Grabovski is likely not going be part of the team in the future and having two #1 centers would be fantastic. Especially one that can play a defensive game and shutdown other opponents (read: important in the playoffs!).

Of course wayyyy easier said than done.

First time it was a sliced tendon (by his own goalie!). As for the two knees injury, same impact would have caused same injury to anyone. This is the 2010s, we can rebuild it, we have the technology! You can be sure the medical staff vetted him.

There are plenty of players who have come pack fine from this. Like Wisniesky. That's right, the Wiz has had 3 knee operations and still just had a career year. If Wis is not damaged goods, then I'll take my chances with Markov.
Just to add, he did take a discount, he signed his last contact for 5.75M when the cap was at 50.3 in 2007. Now its at 64+, makes a big difference.

thats why i wouldn't mind kadri, and grabs going for stastny and the 11th overall, we get a first line center, get our player in a good prospect. then we get richards. 1 - 2 line puch, immediate track on teh playoffs.

Agree. We tried Richards, and he bailed. We'll take another shot at him during the FA period I'm sure on that. Having a Richards-Stastny 1-2 would be insane.

Because it would cost too much, and Pitt have no reason to trade him.

There are always reasons to trade a player that makes 8.7 with Crosby coming up for a re-up in 2 years time. If Gomez is the 7 million dollar man, Brad Richards is the 8 million dollar man, how much is Crosby worth? 12 million, he ain't taking a home discount this time.

Did you laugh last month when I suggested the Flyers were going to trade Mike Richards?

I think a lot of people did. I would guess Philly fans tried to throw batteries at you.

Philadelphia rocked the NHL establishment by dealing Carter and Richards within a half-hour of one another. Carter went to the Blue Jackets for strapping forward Jacub Voracek and a pair of draft choices (first and third-rounders). Flyers then dealt their captain, Richards, to the Kings for forward Wayne Simmonds and highly-touted prospect Brayden Schenn, the brother of Leafs' defenseman Luke Schenn. While it's intriguing to ponder whether Burke could have offered Philly packages that were equal to, or better, than the ones accepted for Carter and Richards, don't confuse that sort of conjecture with the belief that any such opportunity arose. In fact, Burke indicated there is no connection between his trade talks and the two Philadelphia moves.

When asked if the Carter trade might get the ball rolling toward other deals here in Minnesota, Burke said, "Probably... that's what normally happens. It's a good-sized trade that'll get some other things moving but it doesn't affect anything we're working on."
So Burke is working on ...

One guy we haven't mentioned, Mr. John Tavares, can the Isles sign him to a long term contract? If not will they let him go this year? Unlikely but who knows, especially when Snow and Chan or Lee whatever the owner's name are calling the shots.

Based Darren Dreger's Info. Kadri and Kulemin must be in play for Burke to get his 1C

i think it's a definite possibility that we'll see them moved in the next couple of days. the Philly trade rumor must have some validity or those names would have never been mentioned. Burke must have put those names out there, but Carter just didn't seem to be enough or the right fit.

But who is coming the other way?

What do you think?

Kulemin, Kadri, 25th pick, and 30th pick for Staal +

If we can get Staal without moving Schenn it would be absolute highway robbery...
