Seems inexpensive dollar wise.

I'd rather get the cap hit closer to $3.5 per year but eight years locked in at that price would be a damn good contract for us.

That quote literally made me giggle like a little boy... I can't wait to see what Howson does. I don't think I have ever been this excited about the Jackets.... everything just seems to be heading in the right direction.

Maybe he meant the getting traded away part...

Would love to see Umberger sign long term. He puts it all on the ice every night, he seems to love living in the Columbus area, he is a class act and has even ridden in Pelotonia each year.

Umberger's reaction to bringing Carter in appears extremely positive. This alone is a great step for the organization.

Million dollar question is if Umberger had any input in this trade and if this was also designed to speed up potential negotiations with RJ Umberger and convince him to sign a lifetime contract with CBJ.

The Dispatch ran a story this past season quoting Umberger saying Howson had consulted him about several trades. I have to imagine that since the Jackets and Flyers have been talking about Carter since January, that was one of the areas they discussed. When you add in that a poster claimed he talked with a current Jacket player in Columbus last week and they told him the Carter rumors were true, it's reasonable to guess that player was Umberger and he was in the loop on the deal as an advisor. Considering there were also rumors there were discussions between the Jackets and Flyers about Mike Richards, and then Richie was traded almost simultaneously, did Howson have his choice and Umberger gave his opinion?

are you asking if we signed Carter inorder to be more appealing long term to Umberger? Really? I agree that Umby would be happy to get a player of Carter's ilk since we needed that talented pivot for so long, and they were former Flyers together - but signing Carter is the biggest brashest move ever made by the CBJ Mgmt., it is what it is. Umby is one of my favorite players, I hope he sees the positives and stays here to finish off what has been started.

This is going to be a big boost to the locker room. Let's get RJ on a six year deal. Then hope Scott can upgrade our D to a competitive level, then let his kids develop as they should and not rushed.

This is a big day for the franchise. Let's hope Howson can make it a big week+.
