Quickly:

Gauthier...

1) Believes the draft is deep, so he expects the guys at 17th to be more or less of the same quality as the guys at 10 or so.

2) He does not have any 2nd round, but they acquired Bournival recently which is a player they really like and an ex 2nd. After that, they have all their choices for the other rounds.

3) The habs always draft BPA (at least they want this year)

4) They were tracking the cap changes internally so they knew the cap would rise, so they weren't caught by surprise by the league announcement.

5) The habs made a lot of changes in the few years, and in term of man/experience with the club, they are still a "new club" because of all these changes. (Gauthier doesn't say anything specifically but it really sounds like "don't expect drastic moves this summer".)

6) Doesn't want to talk about Yagr, as per club policy.

So yeah, underwhelming. The haters are obviously going to have a field day with 5).

Seriously i rather PG develops our players and drafts well than do a Holmgren and blow up a team in 1 hour.

Agreed, although we don't have comparable players or a comparable situation to that of Philly.

I think in terms of his role, ice time, and calibur, that he should be around the 65-70 points range.

If he cant do that, I just hope he at least competes harder and isnt the cause for conceding a bunch of goals, and has a net positive impact on the ice.

I dont think its too much to ask for.

at least he's consistent

but man oh man am I looking forward to the day where we have a management team unafraid of being more upfront and open about their plans/objectives, and one that has a clearly stated vision.

i suppose the smartest part about their approach is that it tempers expectations and gives them an easy out when their moves/lack of movement leads to yet another mediocre finish.

one part i really disliked was the bit about Bournival... he's not our "2nd round pick" this year, he's a player we traded another quality asset for.
O'Byrne is worth more than a 2nd round pick at this point, so as of today, we have no 2nd round pick (b/c it was used on Moore, whom we chose not to re-sign so that we could replace him with Halpern), and no amount of creative scripting is going to change that.

Send a message via MSN to WeThreeKings
And no comment about trading rights to potential free agents (I.E. Wiz). I think you've gotta put that out there, garner interest and bring up the asking price.
