2011 Mock Draft Game

With the draft approaching, figured it be fun for people to throw out their predictions on how the draft will go down. We will only be doing the top 15, as lets be honest, the rest of the draft gets convoluted after that point and we are Minnesota fans, we don't care about the rest of the teams in the league.

A point system will be put into place, I'm just not sure how I'm going to do it yet. Suggestions are welcome.

Winner will get an avy done by me.

Edits are welcome as we've still got a few weeks before the draft. But if you're going to do them, I'd suggest keeping your original up and make a new one under it. Then just date them. It'll be interesting to look back and see how you did. Only the most recent mock will be scored.

I'll kick this off:

6/9/11
1. EDM -- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
2. COL - Jonathan Huberdeau
3. FLA - Mika Zibanejad
4. NJ - Gabriel Landeskog
5. NYI - Adam Larsson
6. OTT - Ryan Strome
7. WPG - Sean Couturier
8. CBJ - Ryan Murphy
9. BOS - Dougie Hamilton
10. MIN - Joel Armia
11. COL - Nathan Beaulieu
12. CAR - Mark McNeil
13. CGY - Sven Bartschi
14. DAL - Mark Scheifele
15. NYR - Vladislav Namestnikov

And for added interest, throw out your NHL Prospect version of shoot, screw(ah-lets go with dream), or marry. (Shoot=do not want, Dream=want but unlikely-make it somewhat reasonable given player draft stock, Marry=ideal selection)

Shoot -- Nathan Beaulieu
Dream -- Ryan Strome
Marry -- Sven Bartschi

This is the one that I posted yesterday:

1. EDM - RNH
2. COL - Landeskog
3. FLA - Huberdeau
4. NJ - Larsson
5. NYI - Hamilton
6. OTT - Zibanejad
7. WPG - Couturier
8. CBJ - Murphy
9. BOS - Strome
10. MIN - Armia
11. COL - Beaulieu
12. CAR - Phillips
13. CGY - Bartschi
14. DAL - Siemens
15. NYR - McNeill

As for the shoot/dream/kill, it's going to be hard to stay "realistic" because people rise and fall all the time.. Zibanejad was a mid-teen pick a couple months ago and Huberdeau was around 7 or 8... Hope y'all are lenient with this one, especially since my board could be extremely off come draft time...

Shoot: Hamilton, Siemens, Oleksiak
Dream: Zibanejad.. and for shiggles: Landeskog, Huberdeau
Marry: Murphy, Armia, Beaulieu, Bartschi

Wow, if I'm drafting 16, I'm happy to grab Hamilton.

I guess I'll buy into TSN's late hype-train on Brodin. Flahr likes Swedes and I feel we go D if the top-6 forwards are gone and can't trade.

I want to add to this but prospects aren't my expertise. But I wanted to ask in case I missed it, do we have a thread or poll of who we'd like the Wild to pick at 10? I know for awhile it was Zibanejad (now experts are expecting him to go sooner), Strome also seems like a popular selection. Last I read, Hamilton and Murphy were moving up the list too.

Personally, I'd love for us to add a forward but I believe in picking the best player available. Moving closer to the draft, the more I read about Strome, the more I'm impressed. But I'm not an expert since I don't follow their progress so I'd really like to see a poll and explanations.

I think if we made a board of our personal top-10 via vote, we'd have RNH, Larsson, Landeskog, Huberdeau, Strome, Couturier, Hamilton, Zibenajad, and Murphy as the top-9(no specific order). Who's #10? Who knows. I could make a legitimate argument for 10-15 guys for that spot after those 9. But if we pass on one(or more if they manage to fall) of them, I'd be shocked.

Personally, the d-men that would be availeable at 10 do not interest me, and if the forwards the Wild like are gone, I would just move down 5-ish spots and pick up someone else.

Still contemplating a scoring system. Thinking something along the lines of 5 points for the right slot, and then on down point wise depending on how far off the slot was. Going to sit down at some point and run some numbers and see how it would play itself out.

Here's mine:

1. EDM - Nugent-Hopkins
2. COL - Landeskog
3. FLA - Huberdeau
4. NJ - Larsson
5. NYI - Hamilton
6. OTT - Zibanejed
7. WPG - Strome

That's right, I will gladly lose this contest to put as much Couturier vibes out as possible.

1. EDM -- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, BPA
2. COL - Jonathan Huberdeau, with Johnson in the mix they go for skill up front
3. FLA - Gabriel Landeskog, needs a leader to build around
4. NJ - Adam Larsson, needs a PMD
5. NYI - Ryan Murphy, huge skill for their D
6. OTT - Ryan Strome, BPA
7. WPG - Mika Zibanejad, would add scoring to a gritty team
8. CBJ - Dougie Hamilton, needs D and great 2-way player
9. BOS - Sean Couturier, takes the chance on the falling player
10. MIN - Joel Armia, Finnish goal scorer what's not to like?
11. COL - Nathan Beaulieu, adds to their young squad on D
12. CAR - Sven Bartschi, rebuilding depleted top six with skilled guy
13. CGY - Matthew Puempel, gets a great scoring forward
14. DAL - Duncan Siemens, drools over his size, hopes he can grow offensively
15. NYR - Mark McNeil, gets a big center they have wanted forever

Shoot -- Duncan Siemens, don't think he has the skill or smarts to play top pairing
Dream -- Jonathan Huberdeau, unbelievable skill, scoring, and work ethic
Marry -- Matthew Puempel, shifty goal scorer with great hands drops because of injury

Edit: change CBJ to PHI, same thing applies. That team also needs D.

I know for a fact that CF isn't against taking a D at #10 and that if couturier were to slip to #10 he would be our pick.
I'll have to do one of these.

Rumors are that Winnipeg is going to announce the franchise name before they 7th pick.
Jets? Moose? Riot Keepers?
