Montreal is Pierre McGuire's only chance to become a GM

As most of you already know, Pierre McGuire is leaving TSN and joining NBC/Versus full time and will work in the American market more than the Canadian market going forward.

McGuire interviewed with Minnesota and Chuck Fletcher got the job, he also interviewed with Tampa Bay and Steve Yzerman got the job, Ottawa was (apparently) looking for a GM and never called Pierre and Winnipeg was searching for one earlier this month and did not hire Pierre McGuire either.

Here is why Montreal is Pierre's only chance to become a GM:

1) He lives in Montreal and is fluently bilingual
2) He is good friends with Geoff Molson
3) He has close ties and friends in Montreal, the media and within the Habs organization

Besides that, if Gauthier get's fired or resigns in the coming years, I can see McGuire getting a fair shot at becoming the next GM here in Montreal, and love it or hate it, the man knows the players, he knows his hockey and has been mentored by Bob Johnson, Scotty Bowman and Brian Burke in the past.

Discuss!

As long as he holds a press conference every week, I'm down. Guy is entertaining as hell.

Would do it for the lulz.

1) Either he succeeds and we win teh Cup
2) Either he fails and will never be heard of again

He hasn't worked in the league since 1996. IMO if PG were to leave, there are many more serious candidates than McGuire. Dave Nonis, Julien Brisebois, Larry Carriere, Marc Bergevin, to name a few. I don't think celebrity is an quality to be considered when filling the GM job.

Exactly... I like GMs that aren't afraid of making the big moves (something we haven't had in a long time)... but not bipolar...

I hope McGuire never become our GM.

I'll admit, the WJC wont be the same without Pierre doing colour. So used to him raving about and embellishing the talents of all the players.

Hiring this weiner to run the Habs would be the equivalent of NASA going to a Star Trek convention to find someone to head up their aerospace program.

He would never chose a goalie at Number 5 OA. Cause he would flip out...

Can someone find that youtube clip with he freaks out about the Habs Taking Price 5th overall !?!

The entertainment value would be through the roof, and I think I'd be OK with it for that alone.

Ideally only for a year, just for ***** and giggles.

Howmuch damage can you inflict in a year anyway?

Enough of this Pierre Mcguire as GM. The man will never ever be a gm. He either keeps getting turned or doesn't even get offered an interview.

He's just not good enough and I really don't get why people, especially those at the team990(Marinaro, Melnick) keep feeding that idea down everyone's throats.

The title of this thread is misleading. All it tells you is that McGuire will never be a GM and this might not be the case...

NOT

A

CHANCE

there are way better candidates then him to be GM. If Gauthier ever went out, there would be a bigger chance for Jacques Martin to be GM

I dont see PG would loose his job any time soon, he is doing a pretty fine job so far imo.

I much prefer a cool collected private GM like Gauthier and Gainey than a crazy hot head like Mcguire or Burke.

No one wants him, so Montreal should go for it?

He would probably install cameras in the showers and sit in his office drawing on his teleprompter, while with his other hand...........

"Hal Gill is screening the camera with his big body presence "
"WHAMO!!!! he slipped on the soap"
"Oh man.....P.K.Subban is a MONSTER!!!!!!!!"

Very disturbing...............not all that unlikely
