I haven't thought about it enough to do my own yet, but I like this one. Vermette and Upshall would give Johansen a lot of help in his first year. Also, Vermette could take FO if Johansen was struggling. Good work. IMO, Johansen needs to be playing for Portland if he isn't good enough to make the team as a C. We need him developing there.

Quite a definitive statement about a first year player. He obviously struggled his last 20 or so games, but it was also his first pro year. The kid can put it in the back of the net at a top six level. We'll have to see how that sophomore jinx works out for him as well as, hopefully, some increased minutes.

I'm not sure what we used to come up with 3rd line winger. He has a lack of experience, but his skill sure appears to be top six.

I just think that any lineup that uses Brassard or Vermette as a wing is a mistake. Howson has to trade Pahlsson, it is what makes sense if he finds a taker. It slots each one of those centers where they need to be.

Hold your ears Viqsi, but Vermette should really be on the third line, he's the most defensively responsible, good on draws and can produce offensively, which makes the third line dangerous. I still think a line of Calvert-Vermette-Upshall would be fantastic. Speed, skill and a little bit of an edge, plus they'd forecheck like mad. They would be very tough to play against.

I didn't rule out that he could become a top six winger, but right now, to me, third line is where his skills fit best for this club. I like Calvert a lot, he's only going to get better and I hope it's for a long time with this organization. Being on the third line in your second year is not a slight in the least.

Three scoring lines? I still get confused when people automatically equate a line number with a position, evaluation of skill, or use the word promotion.

If Brass or Vermette gets pushed to wing because we have better depth up the middle, call me an excited camper. Helps with depth during injuries, having someone that can take draws when you center is booted out. Assuming they can be productive at wing, I see no issue.

I agree with whoever put Pitkanen in. He should be the main target once the calender hits July 1, he reportedly likes a smaller market/atmosphere, and we could also get him that raise to 5.5-6 million. Many people said he didn't always put in full effort or was lazy in Carolina, but when the guy puts up those point totals year after year, and we need someone who can quaterback a pp and bring the puck up the ice, he's our man.

Three Scoring Lines? I would be happy with just one scoring line right now.

We aren't the Flyers or the San Jose Sharks.

Seeing as I have no idea what you mean by third line winger and he clearly shows top six skills, I have no idea what you are talking about.

If you are saying there are more experienced player ahead of him on the depth chart, I agree. If you are saying there are better players then him on wing in our depth chart, that's a little more of a debate.

Not a big deal, I'm just not connecting with this "He's a third line winger statement". If you are saying he will probably play on the third line, that's a very possible outcome.

Split Nash & Carter and you get:

Nash-Brass-Vermette
Juice-Carter-Umberger

Calvert-Pahlsson-Upshall
Boll-Mac-Dorsett

Wild cards: Filatov/Johan

Also eligible: Kubalik, Atkinson, Mayorov, Wilson (if signed)

I'd shelf this bad boy for now, but obviously line combos are some odd obsession I have never understood. Honestly, I don't even see anything that resembles a conundrum.

I'm more interested in what the defense is going to look like, as opposed to what the top six is going to look like. The top six will be, most likely, in flux until the end of camp.

Even though it looks unlikely that we will sign Upshall, but if we do and we split Nash and Carter, would anyone like to see Umberger-Carter-Upshall on the same line since they have a history together in Philadelphia?

Well I didn't know what exactly Colorado would want in return for Liles so I just added him with Pahlsson. I tried to make sure that I overpaid for guys to take the worst case scenario in terms of the cap.

I would not trade Vermette for Hemsky.

Hemsky's injury issue is troubling at the very least.

Vermette is far more versatile; can take face-offs, play center, is the better defender, plays PK.

My eyes glaze over when Nash isn't paired with Carter. Not sure why Upshall is @ 3.3 when a certain SJ player just signed for 3 years / 9 million. Who happens to have better numbers.

If we re-sign Upshall, might as well start calling the CBJ "Philly West"

Nash - Carter - Brassard
Huselius - Johansen - Vermette
Calvert - Mackenzie - Umberger
Boll - Pahlsson - Dorsett
Kubalik/Filatov/Wilson

That would be the roster I would start with. Johansen starts out beside Vermette who can take faceoffs if needed.
