Honestly, I would've been far more upset had Renegade not sent me the message so I could mentally prepare myself.

Believe it or not, I was kind of numb for an hour; it was kind of surreal.

Then it all hit at once, and I realized just how much Richards had been a part of the hockey revival in Philadelphia after 2006-07. You're a liar if you say that you didn't place everything on his back as a Philadelphia Flyers fan.

So if this has been in the works for that long, all the talk about it having been because of Bryzgalov seems iffy.

Certainly seems to lend credence to the off-ice issues point of view.

True for me too, but as a Flyer fan, you have to get used to having your favourite players dealt away, whether it was Schultz, Lindros, Justin Williams or Janne Niinimaa.... It is what it is.

Dealing Richards and Carter a year after trading Gagne must be a new low, though.

I really hate Flyers offseasons.

Renegade, any info regarding the Stamkos rumor?

I believe it is a sham.

This is exactly how I felt and still kinda feel. I still can't believe Richards won't be in training camp with us. It's really a weird feeling. Like I said in another thread, it reminds me of the day Lindros was traded.

We are paying Carle/Versteeg/Shelley/Leighton/Walker pretty much what Richards and Carter made together.

It's worth it. At least one of those guys is a fan favorite who can play on the 3rd line or anchor his own pairing and be the solution in net. I can feel it.

Lappy is pretty good at faceoffs too.

The extra minutes shelley will earn, will balance out the leadership lost by getting rid of Richards/Carter. Plus, Shelley has never showed up drunk... well maybe just punch drunk.

Shelley is a budding powerforward

As a 16 year old, I was furious when they traded Niinimaa... I also didn't like when we traded Williams, but I did like Markov so that softened the blow a little bit. Then I thought we gave up on Pitkänen too soon. After that it's the Gagné fiasco and now these trades...

Other than those trades, I can't really recall anyone I was relly upset with. Lindros is a different story.

Yeah. I though Niinimaa would be a stud defender back then, but had never heard of McGillis. Guess it wasn't the worst trade ever made after all.

Gagne...
Not surprised that any Flyer fan would be shocked. I would never have predicted Richards leaving. I did predict Philly would not win a Cup with the team they had last year and the year before due to goaltending, though, remember? You seemed to disappear for a bit after Philly was knocked out. I was looking around to read your comments and was disappointed that I didn't see any about your defence and goaltending.

Holmgren is way too confusing. Yes, Philly needed a goalie. Yup, I thought it was scary when he traded for Bryzgalov because it seemed like Philly would truly be a lock for the Cup this season. Then Homer does the trade Carter and Richards thing, letting the Eastern Conference feel a bit safer. Of course, with that defence (assuming Pronger comes back healthy) and a decent forward corps, they are still strong contenders. You just have to think that Homer would have been smarter trying to keep Carter and Richards for another year.

Oh well, as a Habs fan I am happy to see what Homer has done. As a hockey fan, it is nice to see Homer finally recognize that golaies are important pieces of an NHL organization.

This was definitely a bold move by Homer/Snider.

I am one of the old farts on this site and have seen alot of things go down over the years with this club. But the one thing that always stands out for me is right or wrong Ed Snider will not stand pat and have us go through multiple losing seasons anymore. As much as I hated to see Mike and Jeff get moved. I am excited about the future of this club and the direction we are headed in.
