I don't think anyones actually ANGRY about the pick... I just think some of us are worried about our defensive future, and rightfully so. This is an incredible pick nonetheless.

guess what, this pick is an absolute STEAL.

couturier is going to be a bigger impact player at center than hamilton will be at defense.
Word? I would love to have had a jersey with my last name on the back, as well as one of the better players on the team.

Looks like we got some size up the middle. Really excited about the pick. Still bummed about Richie, but this helps a little

In the draft, you go BPA IMO. Dpn't reach for a position.

Thank God Homer didn't **** this up.

Couturier gives the Flyers some size down the middle, which is desperately needed.

Traded Richards for a future Richards, and Carter for a future Carter.

Wow - anyone else like that comparable? Plays defense like Jordan Staal. With a better offensive upside. For reals? At 8? The guy was the consensus #1 overall pick coming into the year, got hurt and dropped but still have the top PPG in Junior hockey over the past two years. QMJHL Scorning champion at 16. Canadian World Junior lock for this year. Prides himself in playing both ends of the ice.

Oh yeah baby, I like it. NEVER thought he would be available. Did I mention he is 6-4 and 200 LBS?

ISS ranked #4. THN ranked #4. TSN ranked #5.

TSN Scouting report:
Sidelined by mononucleosis in August, Couturier didn't really get rolling offensively until after the WJC's, scoring 20 goals in 21 games and reaffirming his status as a top-end prospect Strengths - Big, imposing two-way center who can play in any situation, strong character on and off the ice, solid work habits, strong hockey sense and playmaking abilities. Ability to protect the puck from opponents is second to none. Weaknesses: Didn't really show improvement this season, especially in his skating. Needs to work on his quickness. Not naturally mean, could play with more of an edge. NHL Upside - First or second-line center with solid two-way abilities. A Jason Allison type with better defensive awareness.

Incredible doesn't begin to describe this.

I wanted Hamilton, I thought he made more sense. I think his size and IQ sold me.

Couturier though...

This guy is going to be stellar.

exactly, love the BPA approach in drafting for all sports, when an individual position need buds its head, you can find ways to fill it.

Who was the on-screen comparison? Jordan Staal?

couturier is not really a future carter. he will likely be a 30 goal scorer in the NHL, but he will be MUCH more physical than carter, IMO

What kind of player is he? I know he is big, but does he use his body more than Carter? Can he easily replace Carter in the next couple/few years? How does he play his game?

AWESOME!! Freaking stoked.

I'm really not that big of a fan of any of the D in this draft outside of Larsson. Couturier is a STEAL!

Love the pick, we have plenty of Def. prospects, in fact that is one of our prospect strengths. Defenders are also harder to tell how they'll pan out in the NHL.
This guy could easily be ranked 1-3, it's all subjective, and we didn't have to deal Versteeg that could get us any needed pieces before or during the season.

He's not as prolific a scorer, but he uses his body a little better than Carter did in junior. I don't necessarily think he's going to be an extremely physical player, but he's got some things going for him.

Cubbard is no longer bare. Amazing pick, I read somewhere that he was ranked as high as number 1 in the preseason rankings. Hopefully he can put on 15 pounds and compete for a roster spot this season, obviously don't want to rush, perhaps he can be a call up.

Bill Meltzer thinks that we're a year out from Couturier playing, which is fine with me.

Couturier oozes potential.

I cannot believe he fell to us.

Would have liked Larsson or Lando, but Couturier was my third guy and we didn't have to trade anymore assets to get him.

Just an incredible feeling right now
