I almost got excited when Minnesota announced a trade for Brent Burns, because of stupid dashtary, but instead: San Jose.

Feels bad, man.

EDIT: The updated order (which included McNeil as Chicago property) still had Washington at 26. Is this the full deal or what?

Steep price. I'm going to guess there are subsequent moves yet to be made in WSH -- like trading a winger for a center. Brouwer - good size and plays well with skilled players. Should fit and well and get 20Gs. And he's from Vancouver.

Laich is a better offensive and defensive player than Brouwer.

If Semin is worth 6.7m then Laich is easily worth overpaying at 4 or so.

Brouwer was fifth in the league in hits last year behind Clutterbuck, TRuutu, Brown & Martin.

There better be cos a 1st for Brouwer who's an RFA is ridiculous !!!!
He has played quite a bit on the 4th line when the Hawks were healthy and there's speculation he's looking for big money.

BRUTAL !!!!!!

Led the Hawks in hits. Don't sweat an overrated draft pick - this class is garbage and anyone the Caps might've taken would be 3-4 years away from even sniffing a bottom 6/pairing role. The Caps need to win now and Brouwer helps them, not some kid playing junior hockey.

Could see a laich-eakin-Brouwer 3rd line ripping it up, just need a 2nd line winger...

FWIW - Troy Brouwer finished fifth in the NHL in hits (262) last season. Had 189 (26th) the year before. #caps

I've always loved Brouwer. I remember watching the pre-season game against the Blackhawks two years ago. He really stood out to me and he is so versatile. He can play on any of the four lines, really. I've always wanted him. He's a great pick-up IMO. Two-way, can score and assist, talented, and tough as nails. We need more physical players, he's one. You can even put him on OV's wing and he'd do great. I actually see this as a pre-cursor to the "speculation" that I brought up earlier.

Dont get me wrong I like Brouwer, but considering he`s an RFA.....a 1st rounder is too much especially when you have no other picks until the 4th round.

#Caps spokesman said GMGM will talk after end of 1st round.
Is that normal? Is it for the trade or also another trade too?

They usually interview GMGM, the player(s) picked, and Mahoney on the 1st day IINM. I don't see this as surprising given the trade even if that's all they do.

Based on the descriptions I've read of him he almost sounds like a future Knuble replacement. Big, physical, power forward, that can get rebounds. Unfortunately I only really know him by name. Never really paid much attention to him.

The weak draft is the only reason why the Caps would give up a 1st. True, we are in win mode, not for the future, To get Brouwer and lose Laich, we still are going to lack grit. Now if we get to resign Laich and Brouwer, it is a win all around for us. I have no idea what is going on with Laich, but imo he has earned his money over other players. To think Schultz is eating some of the money that Laich should be getting. As for more hits, I love those. I rather see big hits than those fancy goals.

Me too, but he isn't going anywhere. He is loved by the fans and if I recall signed a new contract. He is a helluva player to watch though.

Brooks Laich is "such an important player"? Wtf? In what way? Edit: Referencing the TSN broadcast after the trade was announced.

Fingers crossed the big move tomorrow is the deportation of Chimmer.

I'm just dumbfounded. How is a RFA 3rd liner worth a 1st round pick, weak draft or not.

He can really play pretty much anywhere. Really versatile, 1-4. I see him playing on the 2nd Line, or even the 1st to pair with OV. We haven't had a player like him on the wing for sometime now.
