Do you know who is also a good leader? Brooks Laich; and a better player.

You know who possesses one of the worst characters in the league and makes nearly 7m? I'll let you fill in the blank.

I like Brouwer as long as Semin is gone and that $ is used wisely. I'll leave it at that.

My hopes aren't up.

Brouwer when healthy, is a physical force that helps the club.

The last thing the caps need is yet another soft euro drafted late 1st rd.

The caps are too soft...its the reason why they have little playoff success.

Brouwer pick up is a step in the right direction. Anybody complaining about this really does not realize what this team needs...

George obviously wanted the guy. And overpaid to avoiding getting into a bidding war on July 1st.

I like the move. Its not like the guy is over the hill. He is only 25. We have our core already. He needs to add... cheap players. Not prospects this year.

And more expensive. Laich doesn't know his role on a scoring line at even-strength (offensively anyway). They'll need to replace his PK and defensive play but he wasn't consistent or dirty enough offensively 5-on-5.

.
Laich's leadership is questionable. He's a great Boudreau cheerleader (in fact, Knuble has teased him about that in the Sports Bog), but based on his on-ice performance, he's an all talk, no walk guy. Says all the right things, but then goes out and plays differently. He has a hard time sticking with what works for him, he was ineffective on the PP, and he's not an overly physical guy because he simply doesn't have the size.

I like Laich, but he's going to get a massive overpayment in the UFA market that his production doesn't justify.

Brouwer only has 4g and 6a in 43 playoff games.....mind you, he has done the little things but that`s pretty weak production.

Holy HF syndrome! Caps pick up a really young hardworking grit guy for a late 1st in a weak draft and people are complaining? This team's window is open now, why would stocking up on futures better than getting a solid NHLer now?

Given his track record of late with picks in the 20ish position, you gotta trust GM to know what's up- and he obviously didn't see any talent this year who was worth it.

I'm guessing many who are sour (or at least borderline) on the deal will look back on it a bit more positively if it doesn't turn out to be an indicator that Laich is gone. Just my guess though.

60% chance that a 1st round pick plays 200 games in the NHL. if you want to pro-rate that statistic for the 26th overall in an (arguably) weak draft, feel free. troy brouwer has 238 regular season games + 43 playoff games clocked in, so he's statistically an equal - maybe better - player than anything that would shake out of the pick he cost.

is it a good deal or not? i'd guess i'd wait to see what terms brouwer is signed/arbitrated/compensated to AND to see if this is a thumbscrew on laich to sign at reasonable terms before 7/1 or replaces a known-to-be-departing laich before i'd make any real judgement about this transaction ...but i also know how to handle my drugs without freaking out ...man.

There's no way Brouwer is worth a 1st round pick, weak draft or not, but then again no one we could have drafed at 26 would help us next season. Still not thrilled about the return though, especially after reading from Hawks fans than apparently Brouwer was asking out of his range in negotiations. Gonna wait and see what happens with the terms but this one is still going to feel like we got hosed, warranted or not.

I like the move. Caps need to get nastier. It's what you need to win playoff games.

Quote:
Burke sounded inspired by the Boston Bruins' Stanley Cup victory, saying their combination of skilled play and hard-pounding physicality, reminded him of his 2007 Cup-winning Anaheim Ducks.

“They played a black-and-blue hard pinch, pinching on everything,” Burke said of the Bruins. “They saw weakness on the hard-around pass, they were pinching on everything, making people pay a price all over the ice.

“I thought it was a black-and-blue Stanley Cup, just like mine was. I thought I was very similar.”

Well these types of guys are necessary. I like brouwer. And gmgm has proven he can't draft these guys.

So whatever.

Just trade sarge and resign hannan. Blow another playoff and finally dump the loser.
