Round 4: Pick #106 (Michael St. Croix, W)

Player: Michael St. Croix

POSITION: CENTER
SHOOTS: RIGHT
HEIGHT: 5' 11"
WEIGHT: 176
BORN: APRIL 10, 1993
BORN IN: WINNIPEG, MB, CAN
DRAFTED: NYR (4TH ROUND / 106TH OVERALL)

Stats:

2010-2011 Edmonton WHL 68 27G 48A 75P 48PIM

Notable Reports:

(thescoutingreport.com)

Michael St. Croix had a solid, though not spectacular season in the WHL this year. The skilled center built on his rookie campaign by becoming a leader with the young Oil Kings, scoring 75 points and improving his plus/minus rating by an impressive 49 points in his second year. St. Croix is a competitive player who likes to set up his teammates, but can also finish when he gets the chance. Next season will go a long way in determining what kind of player St. Croix will be. If he can produce at the level he’s capable of, he could quickly establish himself as one of the potential steals in the 2011 draft.

I tend to think we might move a 5th and a 4th to get a late 3rd. Not sure. I'll update the thread title of any of the picks when/if they are moved as I always do.

probably another American high schooler going to college. Any good players coming out of Shattucks? And another Euro pick a la Hagelin or Fasth. We've gotten some good selections that late before. Still, would be great to pick up at least a 3rd. I wonder if anyone will trade for any of our players.

I hope not, I really do not like it when prospects go the college route. This is not a sleight at Kreider or anyone who chooses that route, but I would prefer that our prospects develop in Juniors or professionally in Europe. I just think that development gets stunted in College Hockey.

Stepan. McDonagh and Leetch turned out terrible. You're right. CHL or bust.

I'm not going to pretend to speculate on who the Rangers like or who will be available this late, but there are two MN high schoolers I've gotten to watch a good bit of and think would be excellent picks for us if we decide to swing for the fences:

Joe LaBate - C, Holy Angels
Steve Fogarty - C, Edina

Look for LaBate to go in the 40s. I doubt he's around in the 4th, unfortunately.

I agree, at least that he should go that high. Lots of raw potential.

Interesting. St. Croix fell FAR down the rankings as the year went on. Not a bad pick in the 4th, but I was never a fan of his.

Boom or bust, right? This is one of those guys who has been talked about on the prospects board as a serious possible sleeper. Highly skilled guy, lots of offense, big bust potential. That's what we wanted right?

I was really hoping for Kale Kessey. I hate to say this, but we may be getting to the point where we have enough jam. I guess taking a swing at a skill guy at this pick may turn profitable.
