Not just another goalie, but like the 5th rated goalie. Could of gotten him in the 4th round

Even the NHLN guys are confused by the choice of goalie, making a few snide remarks about our inability to score.

I am so pissed about this. We could have gotten him in the 3rd or maybe 4th.

Well that sort of took the air out of my sails. I wasn't expecting to get a straight-to-the-NHL forward in the second, but I wasn't expecting a goalie, either.

From TSN:

Played in 35 international matches for Finland over the past two seasons, including the 2011 world junior tournament. Spent the full season with Karpat in the Finnish elite league. Strengths - Strong skater who competes every night, high energy, adequate hands and puck skills. Good hockey sense, responsible in his own end. Strong forechecker, good anticipatory skills. Weaknesses - Lacks high-end skill/skating scouts like to see in smaller players, limited creativity, too small to be a bruiser at the pro level. NHL Upside - Has drawn comparisons to Sean Bergenheim - projects as a pesky, energetic checking line winger.

Everything I read says upside is third line checking forward, "average skill"

Don't be so sure. The analysts might have predicted he was a 3rd/4th rounder, but that doesn't mean the 30 NHL teams agree with that assessment. The last time I got annoyed with the Preds drafting a player too early was Shea Weber back in 2003. That was a big reach as he wasn't in THN's top 100. If I'm not mistaken, there was a lot of support for Patrick O'Sullivan with that pick and there were a few "late first round" quality players available. That same draft, the Wild reached for Brent Burns and baffled many people. Remember that analysts are analysts for a reason. If they were great at identifying talent, they wouldn't be analysts. They'd monetize their talents.

And besides, why would any sane Predators fan want the team to select anything but a D or G? The team has a well below average track record at drafting and developing forwards and a well above average track record at finding and developing defensemen and goalies. I'd much rather us draft defensemen and goalies and let a team capable of identifying offensive talent draft forwards and bring them to NHL readiness.

My complaint here is not that we don't draft forwards, it's that we seem incapable of converting significant depth at D and G into something of legimitate value at F.

As a teenager playing sparse minutes in the best league in Finland.

Not many guys even get the chance to play as 17-year-olds, and guys like Pulkkinen and Granlund are far from the norm. The guy put up three points in six games with the Finnish team at the WJCs this year. That's really, really good.

It's a classic Poile pick. Balanced, modest offensive upside, good intangibles. Whether he'll come over or not at 20 when his contract is up is tough to say, but expect to see him improve on his SM-liiga numbers in 11-12.

Jinx!

We could of had Saad though, but naturally, another division rival scoops him up.

I can't say I'm surprised. But this is getting ridiculous.

We have the 2nd best goalie in the league right now and he can play for another decade. It pretty much shows that Poile doesn't believe we can keep Rinne long term. If we could, then why would we waste a pick on a guy that's never going to be able to see the ice.

And is it a consensus that this guy is the best goalie in the draft?

Then we get some unheard of plug with our second pick.

So far, the past 2 days have been a nightmare for this team with Columbus being very active getting Carter, then taking Jenner, Chicago stocking up like crazy with Mcneil, Denault, Clendining, and Saad, Detroit stealing Jurco, and St. Louis getting Rattie.

FML!

As strange as this day has been, I wouldn't be surprised if we traded our 3rd round pick.

Not surpised. The picks were flying through and it's been stuck on Nashville for a while on the draft tracker.

Any idea for what?
