The guy running the podium at the Draft called him "Eugene Grachef" - come on now. thats disrespectful, at least try to pronounce the kids name right.
Kinda of shocked. Thought we would get a lot more for a kid who was an OHL rookie of the year.
Sounded to me like Gorton thought Grachev was ready to give it a really good go in camp this year.
Well, thats their job, to evaluate these players. Another high school kid comes back, they are really going after these U.S. kids hard. Stepan, McDonagh, Jt Miller, Kreider, Hagelin, etc. Now this kid from MN.
Gordie was probably high on this guy and trading Grachev isn't that big of a disappointment. He was a 3rd round pick and we got a 3rd round pick in return for him. It was pretty clear they believe they mismanaged him and needed to get something now for him before his stock falls further.
Irish head coach Jeff Jackson on Fogarty: "Steven is a smart, offensive player who has excellent instincts with and without the puck. He has shown strong scoring skills at the high school level. He has excellent character and leadership ability and I think he can be an impact player at Notre Dame after spending a year in junior hockey (Chicago Steel - USHL)."
First, don't any of you kid yourselves. The team knows all the info about Grachev. If they dealt him there's a reason. We may not know it, and we may never know it. But the team does. Whether he's lazy, has no hockey sense, or is a serial killer, you're not going to get the whole story. They have it.
Second, this team finally, after soooo many years, appears to be following a direction. They place heavy emphasis on players who work hard. Players who obsess about the game and coming to the rink, and giving it their all when they get there. If a guy doesn't fit that mold, then we get him out and bring in someone who does. Bravo. A move like this may not make sense on paper, but the games aren't played on paper. This is a lesson in chemistry. You bring in similar guys who follow the overall image of the team that you want.
Third, am I the only one who has no idea what "drinking from the firehose" is supposed to mean?
Nobody liked the Stepan pick, nobody likes this trade. Lulz.

I have to agree. Clarke has done well drafting very young kids like this. Kreider was one. They must have soured on Grachev. Have to trust that they know better. At least watching this day 2 draft show was not a total waste of time.
