Marcel Noebels said he knew he would have to make certain sacrifices along the way if he wanted to live his dream of playing in the National Hockey League.

Step one of that quest was leaving his native Germany to play in the Western Hockey League with the Seattle Thunderbirds. So far, the move has paid major dividends.

The 6-foot-2 1/2, 195-pound left wing finished second on his team with 28 goals and third with 54 points. He also was second among first-year WHL players in goals and fifth in points. He's No. 48 on NHL Central Scouting's ranking of the top North American forwards available for the 2011 Entry Draft.

"Noebels has adjusted pretty well, and he's positioning himself better in the second half of the season," Central Scouting's B.J. MacDonald told NHL.com. "He's got nice size and awareness, displays playmaking capabilities though he doesn't have much to work with in Seattle. His work habits are good and not too many bad habits have crept into his play on a bad team, which is a good sign. I like the way he thinks, but he must improve his foot speed. … He has a scoring touch."

Noebels succeeded despite playing for a Seattle team that finished last in the WHL Western Conference and scored the fourth-fewest goals in the league, and while facing the opposition's best checkers and defense pairs on a nightly basis.

I like it. Hopefully Ambroz will still be available for the next for so my pre-draft prediction of Couturier and Ambroz will come true.

Ilike this pick. Came over from Germany last year. Played for Germany in the WJC, leading the team in assists with 1 goal, 2 assists in 7 games.

Adjusting to his first season in the Western Hockey League, Noebels had 10 goals in his first 34 games and an impressive 18 goals in his final 34 games after competing at the World Junior Championships.

GKJ, you might want to change OHL to WHL. Seattle isn't in the OHL region.

Funny, before the draft there was a report about the talents developed by Krefeld, Noebels former team in Germany. In it Noebels mentioned that he felt the Canucks and Flyers showed the most interest in him at the combine. I guess his gut wasn't wrong that time

I'm just glad his last name starts with an "N"... and that there's only one "b" instead of two. Whew.

What's next? Winnipeg isn't in the southeast?

Fourth Round – #118 Overall

Just two picks after Suellentrop, Holmgren went the forward route again with Seattle Thunderbirds left winger Marcel Noebels.

Rated as the 49th-ranked North American skater, the Flyers may have gotten themselves another steal at the 118th pick. The 6′ 3″, 200-pound native of Tonisvorst, Germany overcame a slow start in his initial year in North America to score 28 goals and notch 54 points in 66 Western Hockey League contests.

NHL Central Scouting said that Noebels has good size and awareness, shows good playmaking abilities, but must improve his foot speed

like that Pick, not only because it´s a german boy.

He seems to be focused on his way, and willing to do what is needed (go to North Amercia). And he show his talent in NA fast and furious ;D

#Flyers fourth round pick Marcel Noebels, is the second German ever selected by the Philadelphia Flyers. And grew up a #Flyers fan.

Anyone else notice we picked him at #118, when his final rank was #49 for NA skaters? Honestly, I hope this kid becomes a great find for us .

I have read in another thread or HF Article, that there were rumors Noebels might return to Germany next season. But I believe that would only have been an option for him if he had went undrafted again.

But since they were only rumors and he has been drafted I believe and hope he will stay in North America an go all the way.

So far he has found ways to score at any level he has played. Hopefully he keeps that up.
