Well, Columbus has nothing to lose otherwise.

At worst they'll just look back on this pick and say "oh, meh."

Listening to Ambroz talk in to the media downstairs, he has a big chip on his shoulder. He's not too happy right now. Kept saying 'prove them wrong'.

I'm not surprised he ended up falling out of the 1st round over time (big kids always get a ton of hype at young ages) and I'm not super surprised he lasted through the 2nd either. I was surprised though he didn't go in the 3rd. He has some big time flaws but if he shows the dedication, which apparently he hasn't shown yet, to improve on those flaws then he'll be a steal and I'm just surprised it took that many picks for a team to take that risk.

That said, and I think it was Cagney that said it, his rise, hype, and corresponding fall is like an extreme version of Adam Pineault.

sucks for Ambroz, but hopefully the kid wakes up. he has the talent and size to be a dominating force, now get your head on straight and use your heart as well because you just got your first flippin wake up call buddy.

Probably thought he would go higher since he was with all the other top prospects before the draft

Spot. On.

I grew up with Pineault(literally) and it's honestly the EXACT same situation as watching Ambroz this year. Now...just waiting until Seth cracks from the pressure in Gopherville and heads to the Dub...lol.

I wouldn't be surprised. Ambroz is a 5th round pick but he won't be treated that way by the Gopher fans. He needs to work on his skating and compete levels first and foremost. Hopefully for him he dedicates himself to that wherever he is.

Thanks for the info guys..

I was thinking Adam Pineault when looking at this kids size and stats. We really need a power forward on the right side. Could this kid develop in the right program?
We just haven't had that right wing that combines size, speed and soft hands..(as well as hockey smarts). I hope he works his arse off and proves the league wrong.. He's got about 120 reasons to be pissed.

After being so highly touted he slipped quite a bit, how was he this year?

It was his freshman year so his stats are justified. When he bulks up and matures he will score more often.

6 points in 9 games so far. Isn't too terrible, anyone who watches him, how's he doing?

He's been better but a lot of that may be due to the fact that he's been skating on a really good third line with Travis Boyd and Nate Condon. He still needs to improve his skating....a lot.

I think his skating has improved alot. He is taking less feet in mud penalties and looks good in a cycle moving around. Condon makes a lot of people look slow.

He is still a major project. He is progressing nicely.

In terms of the NHL. Book mark him and open it up in 4 months. No real reason to get exited about anything yet.

I would agree that his skating has improved but if you had to point one thing that needs work and is holding him back, it would still be his skating.

Give him a couple years. Yeah from the games I watched his skating still needs work, but it's way better than last year and you can definitely see the talent he has. No idea where he ends up though, I can see him make the NHL in a couple of different roles depending on how his game and skating develop.
