Yeah, this is a very good pick. If he can take the next step, this kid will be a 80-90 point player in the WHL.

Like this pick. Good upside and a good motor. Had an excellent playoff run.

McColgan had surgery to remove an abscess in his tonsil and missed three weeks to start season.

He wrote a draft blog on nhl.com.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/blog.htm?id=9

A bit on Yahoo.

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/juniorhoc...rhockey-358839

And, last but not least, RLR ranked him 7th in its Yvan Cournoyer Award (best pure skater in the draft class).

Comment: Much like a Toyota Prius, his pedal is always stuck to the metal.

I hear he can be a bit of an agitator at times too. I'm feeling a mix of Callahan and Brad Marchand.

I LIKE THIS PICK A LOT

I would love if he turned into a St. Louis clone. Small, good skater, total balls-to-the-wall playstyle. Anybody know what kind of skills he has? Goal-scorer, playmaker, all around?

I'm really liking the sounds of Fogarty, McColgan, and Miller. All 3 of these guys i am starting to love. Fogarty and McColgan are proving, in my eyes at least, to be steals

I would not have been happy taking him in the 3rd or 4th, but in the 5th? Hell yeah. This kid can be a legitimate steal. I like this better than the St. Croix pick, since I think McColgan has a much more realistic shot at making the NHL with his game.
I would like to see St. Croix play a season first

I think the Rangers think he will be a NHLer

What I like best here is that the Rangers (Our Rangers!) have an identity and they are drafting to fulfill that strategy. Nice job.

Yep, we finally have an identity: North-South, American style of play, 2-way players, both sides of the puck, etc.

Wow, can't believe McColgan dropped. I remember reading up on him awhile ago. Extremely happy with this pick. Definite steal potential.

Is he 5-11 or 5-8?

Seeing conflicting reports.

Definitely a fan of this pick. When you can take a guy like this that was supposed to be a sure-fire 1st rounder about a year or so ago in the 5th round, that's a steal.

McGuire said Jersey could have had the Steal of the Draft with Larsson at 4th overall... while that is a steal, getting this kid in the 5th round could be something else.

I know that I don't know much about this kid, but I'm pretty excited. Love his game.

Maybe Parros can give him tips on how to grow an awesome mustache. ABSOLUTE steal of a pick, if he can.

LOOOOOOOOOVE THIS PICK!

I am a believer in smaller guys who have high upside potential.

I know most smaller guys dont make it to the NHL but Savard, St. Louis ect are big time players.

Seems this kid shies away from NOTHING even being 5'8". Goes into the dirty areas, scores well, sees the ice well. And a 5th rounder (a throw in from the Erixon trade). LOOOOVE IT

Low Risk/HIGH reward. YUM!

Some people had him as high as top-5. However, he just never found that next level in his development this season. Had some games where he was absolutely awesome to watch, but too many where he looked like he was forcing it. Some feel he finally found that next gear in the playoffs this year. Next season should be a big one for him.
