People better not complain about #6 this year for #6 next year. Whether the draft is good or bad applies to the first and second round, not to the 6th. I would rather have an earlier pick than a later one. Good trade and hopefully the kid pans out. Obviously Gordie liked him enough to ask for this trade.

Those stats aren't correct of course (I would probably today score more then 4 pts in 25 games in the Slovak junior league...).

I've heard some about this kid. A physical speciman along the lines of say a Anton Volchenko.

But I would not be suprised if he just aint good enough (nearly), the last slovak picks we has not been great, and IMHO Skokan and Zabrosky was downright worthless picks not worthy a org with a good scouting organization.

I've only seen glimpses of this kid, and cannot comment much on him. But Jan has something to prove IMHO, and I know for sure that good prospects will be picked after this kid or not be picked at all. If this kid do not come close, I'll be dissapointed. Its time that one of this Jan Gladsijk picks from the Czech Rep/Slovakia at least becomes solid AHLers.

Official numbers on this kid seem to be 0/6/6 in 19 games from the junior squad.

He was also on both the U18 and U20 Slovakian squads. Not sure I've ever seen that. Shows you how far Slovak hockey has fallen.

Regarding stats and Čerešňák. He played most of the season in the menīs league against men, so you can hardly expect a 17 yo D-man to put up big numbers against men. Also 25 of these games he played for the Slovakia U20 team which played against the top menīs league teams and regularly lost and they only socred 42 goals in all their games, so 4 points in 25 games as a D-man is not bad. Th other 7 games he played with Dukla Trenčínīs menīs team and obviously as a junior with limited ice-time. He did also play junior games and only had 6 assists in 18 games there. (He did much better offensively in juniors as 16/17 yo last year with 22 points in 47 games).

slovakiasnextone, can you direct me to a good stats page for Ceresnak?

EliteProspects' stats for him aren't right, and I couldn't find stats for him on the Szlh.sk page for the men's club--just the junior club (http://www.szlh.sk/statistiky/c-0900...ts!38B!6119705). Any help is appreciated.

I think eliteprospects actually have got his menīs league stats right, here: http://www.szlh.sk/statistiky/c-0001...138B%216119705
As for junior the only mistake by eliteprospects is that they have him playing only 18 games, while he played 19 acc. to szlh.sk

Thanks. I didn't know the deal with HK Orange 20 being the U20 team, so I didn't look for him there. I was looking in the Dukla Trencin player stats, where he wasn't listed. Much appreciated!

Apparently the Slovak U-20 team plays most of its games against the adult league, where it got slaughtered night in & night out. But Ceresnak was supposedly its top prospect.

Dunno how to see this pick, isnt 2012 the deeper draft?
Whenever picks are swapped from one year & the next, the team acquiring the pick in the current year usually gives up a pick a round higher next year. So the Rangers did very well to make an even swap of 6's.

We found Cally in the 4th, Hagelin in the 6th and Fasth in the 6th. Granted, the latter two aren't even in the NHL yet, but they look pretty good for their value. Add to that Girardi who was undrafted and our track record looks pretty good. We have one superstar, two good players and two good prospects from later rounds in our system. You can hardly expect to find a superstar in the 7th every other year.

true. i hope the latter 2 see some ice time on this team. and yes, Callahan was a 4th rounder, but past that, it seems like we don't look hard enough. Detroit seems to know where it's at in regards to late round players

Clark indicated the player wants to play in the CHL and the Rangers will see where he ends up in the import draft.

Well, of course they drafted Zetterberg and Datsyuk in the later rounds who turned out to be superstars. But especially if you only start from the 5th round and later I don't think they have been significantly more successfull than the Rangers since then.

You can't go by the stats on Ceresnak because he played with the HK Orange U20 who competes against all of the Slovak Extraliga teams which are made up of older players. The team was outscored on average by 3 goals per game and struggled to score all year so 6 points is pretty good for a forward, let alone a defenseman, on that team.

This kid is big, he can hit, and he also has a very good shot, which somehow hasn't gotten mentioned yet in the analysis of the pick.

He's a bit of a longshot and a project, and he'll need further seasoning, but if it works out could be much more than what you'd expect from a 6th rounder. High risk, high reward, I like that in the late rounds of a draft.

I think anyone picked in round six is by definition low risk. He's low risk, high reward.

Ceresnak was projected as the second best Slovak for this year draft. But that was in the summer 2010. From this point it is for him a little bit disappointing.

But his performance in the U 20 WCH and U 18 WCH was really poor and thats the main reason , hes is so low.

Clark said the player wants to play in the CHL. Ceresnak was picked 4th overall in the import draft. He will playing in Peterborough next season. Roman Horak made the move to the CHL after he was drafted. Smart move. Rangers traded him in the Erixon deal.

interesting tidbit: with the exception of Jan Marek (overager) every czech or slovak the rangers have drafted since 2003 has come over to play in CHL, last one who didnt was prucha in 2002.

This is great news - let's see what he can do against more meaningful competition. Hopefully he actually gets a chance to learn something versus just trying to survive against much better teams.
