I don't get why you guys are so quick to write off Komisarek. This man wasn't in training camp last season, and he had come back from AN INJURY.

This season he's not injured, and he's going to training camp. He will succeed.
Did you watch a Leafs game this year?

If he played on the first pairing we'd allow atleast 5 goals a game. He sucks.

I agree, he has improved greatly with the puck skills, plus he is a right handed shot.

Liles, Phaneuf are both defensive liabilities...

Can't pair them on the top line.

Phaneuf - Aulie
Liles - Schenn
Gunnarson - Komisarek

Phaneuf turned his game around because he had Aulie with him - Why mess with that? Liles also had a very poor second half of the season, perhaps because he was given too many minutes? Let Komi get his game back slowly, if that is even possible, on the third pairing.

aulie - phaneuf
liles - schenn
gunnarsson - komisarek

PP1 richards - phaneuf
PP2 gunnarsson - liles

i think gunnarsson and liles will be interchangable depending on the situation. for example gunnarsson is better defensively so i'd rather seem him out there with schenn in the final minutes of a game protecting a lead. if we're chasing a lead i'd go with liles - schenn or liles - phaneuf.

IMO barring any more trades involving our defense or a rookie having an amazing training camp the defensive lineup for our opening game will be
Aulie- Phanuef
Liles-Schenn
Gunnerson-Komisarek

it is possible Aulie has a sophmore slump and may be moved off the top pairing but until his play shows he cant handle top minutes he will be given them.

The great thing about bringing liles in is that even if Aulie has a bad year or a slow start we have the depth to move our pairings around

This, with an emphasis on Liles and Schenn being the #1 pairing.

I dont know if Liles would be good on a pair with Phaneuf. That pretty much confines all our offence to one pairing, not to mention both of those guys need to be paired with a solid stay at home guy to allow them to play the way they do. Aulie was good with Phanuef last year, but I think its time to put Schenn into his role as our stud, top pairing shutdown guy. I would try this:

Schenn - Phaneuf
Aulie - Liles
Komisarek - Gunnarsson

Each pair gets a good mix of puck movement/stay at home defence. Perhaps switch Komi and Aulie IF Komisarek regains his form.

from what i've seen Schenn is quite terrible on the Left side (right handed shooter). if schenn is the odd man out in all of this he's surely to be considered trade bate. uhh orrrr maybe not.

hmmm...well if thats the case just switch Aulie and Schenn like other posters have mentioned, but I like the idea of trying our top two d-men together and trying to get some chemistry going there.

I think you might be right about that. I would put Schenn on the 2nd line PP pairing on the left side for better 1 timer opportunities, and have Gunnarsson on the right side.

5on5

Aulie Phaneuf
Liles Schenn
Gunnarsson Komo

PP

1.Liles Phaneuf
2.Schenn Gunnarsson

It can definitely get us into the playoffs, assuming none of them play below how they ended the season.

Schenn, Liles and Phaneuf are legitimate top 4 D, Aulie and Gunarsson have shown glimpses of top 4 ability, and both should fit will in the top 6.

That leaves Komisarek. I dont like him at all, but when he plays 15 - 17 minutes (not 13 - 14 and not 18 - 22) he doesnt turnover the puck much. The key is not to play him too much. If he plays to little, his already crappy puck skills get worse due to sitting, and if he plays too much hes prone to turnovers

Whatever it is we can't have Aulie and Komi on the same line. They're the same player except Komi is slower and blunders around the ice.

This, although for PP2, i'd rather have Schenn on there than Aulie.

Lashoff/Holzer will be 7th dman

I sincerely hope Komi rebounds. This is his last chance, if he doesn't play like he should his ass is gone. It's convenient too, because the following year(2012-2013) even though his cap hit is 4.5M he's only being paid 3.5M, so it would be easier to get rid of him.

I've lost basically all hope in him "playing like he should". Watching him night in and night out make brutal passes has made me really doubt he'll come anywhere near being worth 4.5m. I'm just hoping that next year he can play like a solid bottom pairing defenceman like Andy Sutton was for the last few years, and maybe worth something around 2m so that it won't be absolutley impossible to move his contract.

As many have said, I can see this;

Aulie - Phaneuf
Liles - Schenn
Gunnarsson - Komisarek

PP1:

Liles - Phaneuf

PP2:

Gunnarsson - Forward

I can see Wilson placing the likes of a Brad Richards or Kadri on the point for the PP to try a different dynamic than Luke Schenn if he isnt working out.

This. I don't even know why there is any debate on this. Liles replaces Kaberle.
