Didn't get to post on Saturday as I went out of town. Very happy about this pick. I was shocked this guy didn't get picked in the 4th round, and glad to see we snagged him.

He doesn't quit on plays, which is always a nice trait, and he doesn't take shifts off. I think his offensive upside is a little bit overblown, but he can be a contributor in that regard.

Great pick.

McColgan is the fastest skater of anyone in this draft. If you can't catch 'em, you can't hit 'em.

I now live very close to where Shane McColgan grew up.

His father and uncle own a few bars in Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach. I've never met his father (Shane), but I've been talking to his uncle about this kid for two years now.

The skinny: he's closer to 5'8" than 5'11" in person. I'm 5'11" and the kid is significantly shorter than me. He translates to a Theo Fluery type of kid if he develops. I don't think his size is as big an issue as most people would believe. He's pretty solidly built (his uncle by the way is almost square) despite the fact that he's pretty short.

Good family, solid kid. He should be a nice agitator with enough offensive upside to sneak his way on to a second line if he develops. Even if he doesn't develop, he could still be a nice lower line kid who's tough to play against.

And people laughed when I said Marchand is a grittier Callahan...Marchand is one of those players teams need to win. Kinda like Fedotenko and Prust.

I don't think Marchand is grittier, he's dirtier.

They don't come much more gritty than Callahan.

Marchand ISN'T grittier than Callahan, though. He's more of an agitator, maybe a grittier version of Sean Avery.

Either way, as much as he annoys me, i'd like a player like him on the team.

I think it's a safe bet that McColgan plays at least one more season, and probably two more in juniors.

Just letting you guys know in case you didn't, McColgan scored a goal today at Camp in the scrimmage.

He's a sparkplug for sure. IMO, a great chance to be on this year's WJC team.

Well, this pick is both surprising and amazing at the same time. I followed the draft news since last year September and remember him being right up there with RNH for the top picks. The fact he was drafted in round 5 is a massive surprise of course, despite his bad run recently.

The funny thing is that I was talking to a friend of mine about Shane McColgan 6 months ago, saying I would like to see him being drafted by us. At 1 stage the McColgan story got so out of hand, we were actually tracking he every move, even drafting him in NHL 11 on the PS3 and playing with him in the Rangers team.

Last weekend we were following the draft and when we heard McColgan got drafted, we were just confused. We thought we didn't hear it right. Shane McColgan, drafted by the Rangers. Man...

Let's see what he can do for us. I like our drafts this year and we finally seem to get rid of that image of Galactico's (freaking expensive players, never winning anything) We have been the NHL's Real Madrid for too long
