No updates on any of the other guys, but it looks like Bieksa is MG's priority. Hope he can get something in place before Friday.

Should be making Hamhuis money or a little less and not more than 4 years. Only a limited NTC as well.

Happy to hear Bieksa re-signing is imminent - be happier to hear Ehrhoff gets done.

I'm guessing no more than 4.5m a year.

It'll be around 4.2, 5yrs (BXA wanted 6, MG wanted 4) with a limited NTC

I can live with that. I just hope he has the same intensity he had the last two contract years. Hamhuis will go a long way in ensuring we get Bieksallent and not the guy that played for us in 09-10.

That was my guess, meet in the middle type of contract.

I think Ehrhoff's will be the same in the sense, they are getting closer to fair value, while coming a smidgen down a bit from CE's side.

Salo's will be really cheap imo, the last kick at the can for the cannon.

I just really hope the guy can sustain a decent level of play. Hamhuis was a great stabilizing force for him but didn't he also look great with Mitchell for a while a few years back, what happened to that?

Juice was still developing, then his legs got sliced open a couple of times.

He did look good with Mitchell for a year and a bit but Bieksa's play was so erratic even a top 5 defensive defesneman couldn't cover for all his gaffes. The duo also eventually really struggled to exit their zone with speed and were forced to turn back far too frequently - that caused a lot of their defensive issues.

IMO Hamhuis is a better fit because he can skate the puck out of his own zone efficiently and has the quick mobility to get back into position when Bieksa turns the puck over or gets caught too high in the offensive end.

I just really hope their is flexibility in the contract to move Bieksa if he regresses. Kevin is the type of player another team will always be willing to take a risk on and Gillis needs to keep that option open. I'd give him a NMC in the first 2 years with a limited NTC in the latter portion...

If we slap on a NTC, I'd go 3-4 years at an average cap hit of $4M. No NTC then I'd go up to 5 years and as high as $4.5M.

Anything between 4.25 and 4.5 over 5 years is my guess

4million per year over 5 years. Limited NTC is my guess

I would honestly not make Bieksa a priority. I see Ehrhoff more of a priority because he's the type of defencemen that contributes to our PP being #1 and our transition game being very elite.

Whenever Bieksa is not paired with Hamhuis, he is a disaster. Would I want to commit 4+ years to Bieksa again?

In the few games that we saw Ballard play with Hamhuis (against Detroit really sticks out) he played his best game of the year.

We know Ballard is capable of scoring at a similar pace as Bieksa (20+ points) and playing a top four role while already signed to a contract that Bieksa is seeking.

Hamhuis (4.5) - Ballard (4.2)
Edler (3.25) - Ehrhoff (5.0)
Rome (0.75) - Salo (1.5)
*Tanev (0.9)

IMO, I am totally fine rolling with that defence next year.

I'd wager the NTC is the point of contention in the agreement and the reason it wasn't already done last week. Especially in the wake of all the trade rumours last year. I doubt he wants to re-live that.

Him maintaining some kind of consistancy with his defensive play would be the BEST form of a 'no trade clause'.

^^I think Ehrhoff is the priority. I just think Bieksa's is the easier deal to get done and get out of the way.

My guess is, Bieksa's deal is done. They're not going to announce it yet though, as they are focusing on Ehrhoff. It wouldn't shock me if Ehrhoff's deal was announced before Bieksa's, if we re-sign both that is.

Bieksa brings a lot of attitude, snarl and sticks up for his teammates. Something this team would sorely be lacking if he got away. Plus he likely comes at a discount. You guys will be shocked at the kind of deal Ehrhoff ends up getting from someone. Cap has gone up, UFA pool is weak and everyone wants a puck mover PP type. We won't want to match the deal he gets.

Bieksa re-signs

Eklund reporting "Bieksa has re-upped in Vancouver (e5). I also hear he took less money to stay a Canuck. More to come."

Agreed, Juice flat out saying he wants to be back pretty much, so might as well get that done and over with.

It's Eklund... Does that mean that he hasn't signed yet?

So essentially he's reporting what everyone already knew. Jeeze. I could pretend to be a source and post that Kevin Bieksa has re-signed, it'll be announced before July 1, and that he took less money to re-sign here than he would have been offered on the open market.

Eklund did break the Mike Richards deal....but something like this, with how vague his wording is, could have come from anyone who's paid even remotely close attention to the situation.

Eklund stating the obvious so he can claim he "predicted" something right.

Well jeez, I predicted the sun would rise. I wouldn't put that on my CV.
