Jones can play RW, and so can PRV is it comes to it. I think that's more likely than Smytty on that side.
I think the whole point of adding a guy like Smyth is that he'll earn his ice time. I don't think it does this team any good to have players given premium ice-time without earning it. Our young players shouldn't be sheltered from the internal competition for spots in the line up. That's what makes teams good.
It's not that Jones can play the right side, he did play the right side.
Bieksa has already stated that he would like to stay in Vancouver and he would be willing to take a hometown discount. I don't see him going anywhere else, considering, as has been pointed out, he has played his best hockey with Hamhuis.
I think the thought process is a little out there. Why would we look to bring other ex-Oilers "home" as in the case you suggested bringing Marty Reasoner back when there are several other better options available at this point?
Point I was trying to make is that we brought one player home and it will not be some kind of trend. Seems like flawed logic for management to use. Well we brought one guy back lets look at other possible ex-Oilers to fill our other holes first.
Marty Reasoner is exactly the kind of player we need on this team. The fact that he was an Oiler (twice) before is irrelevant.

At this point I'd prefer someone that plays with Grit. We are really soft up front and adding Reasoner doesn't help the cause. Although if he wants to come here I guess you probably have to sign him.
Upcoming FA from the NJD, and I'm not sure if they will re-sign him(and probably wont).
27 y/o, 49 hits in 82 games, 157 blocked shots, 34 takeaways and giveaways, played 22:21 TOI/G, 1:16 PP TOI/G and 2:19 PK TOI/G. Scored 23p (4g 19a).
He's not a big name, so I don't think he'll ask for Wiz money, but he's played tough minutes on a decent enough NJD D, he does a little of everything, and him and Gilbert together would make a decent shut down pairing which could block a boat load of shots and start the transition game.

.How about Konopka who not only wins faceoffs and PKs, but adds a physical presence?
Konopka really blows on the PK. Worst PKer on the Isles and he was on the 2nd unit with the 4th most ice time.
He's slow as molasses too, so defensively, he's legitimately, nothing more than a 4th liner. If we get an injury to Horcoff, Gagner or whoever, if he goes to the 3rd line, we're effed.
I'd rather Fiddler and Reasoner. We need more than one of these type of guys, I don't care if it's Reasoner, or Justin Timberlake, we just need someone who can play in the role well.

Look, buddy, you obviously are looking for something to disagree with, rather than answering what I feel is a legitimate question.
I gave my reasons for wanting him back, you chose to focus on something that was inconsequential.
Yeah I'm down on taking a flyer on Wiz (though there will be rapper jokes and puns, thanks to gene if we sign him).
I'd also stay away from Bieksa.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Bieksa played his best hockey when he was paired with Dan Hamhuis.
When Hamhuis went down with injury in the finals, I thought Bieksa's game went down in quality.
It wasn't too long ago that Bieksa was being offered for a 7th round pick/Fraser/Foster type deal by Canuck fans due to him sucking pretty bad.
To me, it's too much of a risk. But maybe it's just me.
It wasn't too long ago that Cannuck fans wanted the Sedins gone either.
I'd much rather have Bieksa than Wizniewski. Even when Cannuck fans all wanted him traded (which I always found strange), he was still taking on the tough assignments and logging big minutes for the Cannucks. It's a role he's been in, and has shown he can handle it. Wizniewski has played in a somewhat sheltered role on every team he's been on to this point in his career. We need someone to take the pressure off the kids, not to take the minutes in the situations we should be playing our young defensemen in.
...and there is no other players available that fill the same voids as Marty that would be a better fit?
How about Konopka who not only wins faceoffs and PKs, but adds a physical presence?
Konopka would be nice in addition to Reasoner, but he isn't anywhere near the penalty killer (which is what we need more than anything IMO), and he doesn't have the trak record of being able to play against the other teams' best players.
I don't think there are too many players available who would be a better option than Reasoner. Konopka certainly isn't one of them.
