Saint John Sea Dog goaltender De Serres has been invited to Phoenix's prospects camp.

http://gdrinnan.blogspot.com/

He hasn't decided on whether he'll attend yet or not.

Not easy to find on hockeydb's player search - here's the link:

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=117534

Ironically was drafted in the 3rd round by Philadelphia 2 years ago... with pick number 84. Same as the one they gave to us this year.

He had good numbers in Brandon and St. John. Impressive win totals. TSN's player page says he re-entered the draft in 2010, but I assume he wasn't taken? What caused him to move from the WHL to the Q? I guess he could be competing for a job in Portland next year?

That seems likely.

Brandon decided they didn't want to use a 20 year old spot for a goaltender. Each team is allowed 3 overage spots so they are at a premium.

Edit: Interestingly enough both of Brandon's 20 year old tenders ended up in the Q.

And he helped the Sea Dogs to a Memorial Cup and won the Q's goalie of the year? Maybe they should have rethought using a 20 year old at goalie!

Who was the WHL goalie of the year this year? Maloney should go for the trifecta.

They were in a rebuilding year so I think they were prepared to take their lumps and prepare for the future.

Minnesota's prospect Darcy Kuemper. Although, let's face it, our prospect Justin Weller's stellar D probably had something to do with it.

Gormley's probably at a bit of a disadvantage being a 19 and having missed last year's WJC due to injury but ya gotta think he's a lock if he's playing in the Q.

Coyotes forward Lucas Lessio is at the Team Canada camp for the WJC.

here's a profile: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article..._draft_review/

here's the Team Cda Roster: http://www.hockeycanada.ca/index.php...58/la_id/1.htm

So we have Visintin and Domingue as Goaltenders

Gormley at Defense

Lessio as a Forward

I wonder if Ruuttu was invited to camp for Finland.

Gormely is a lock. He should have made the team at 17.

Agreed - it's hard to find a way for Gormley to not make the team. Chances are he should be a big part of the team.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=585791 Visentin is certainly a grounded kid.

"It's a whole new year and a whole new team, and obviously we don't dwell on the past," said Visentin said. "Me and a couple of the other guys on the team have been there but we just use it to our advantage and motivate ourselves to get better in the summer and the offseason. I came to Canadian camp with an open mind and am just preparing the best I can."

Alexander Ruuttu scored his first pre-season goal for Jokerit, 3-0 goal, set up by Teemu Pulkkinen against Komota Brno.

Yes, he played on the 3rd line with Jani Rita and Riku Hahl. They already played together a week ago.

Looking at the organizational depth chart and the intracacies of the CBA it would appear Justin Weller will probably not play another year of junior.

If I understand the CBA correctly a junior player's contract does not slide if he is 20 as of Sept 15 of the relevant year. Weller's 20th was in July.

I can't see the Don paying Weller $50K to play junior hockey.

He'll probably be one of the Gwinnett assignees unless he outplays Brodeur, Ross and the like for a spot in Portland. The organizational depth is the deepest the organzation has ever had. Hopefully that translates into some modicum of success at the different organizational rungs.

Brett would be a fourth generation NHL'er.

According to an article in finnish a tabloid(In Finnish: http://www.iltalehti.fi/jaakiekko/20...17194_jk.shtml), Ruuttu got sick at the prospect camp. It says he got somekind of bacteria apparently from a salad he ate there. It also says there's are theory that someone urinated in the salad(don't know where they got that from...) which sounds pretty bizarre. He lost 7 kg and that's a major reason he's starting the season at the junior level.

Kekäläinen added that Ruuttu's recovered already and has gotten back some of his weight. When did Coyotes even have their Prospect camp?

Have I got this wrong? A 20 year old (junior age) player's contract does not slide so Weller will be collecting his minor league salary playing in Red Deer?

Weller was assigned to RD today.

Edit: So can/will Weller's contract slide a year? He would have been effectively 20 years of age when he signed the contract.

http://www.capgeek.com/FAQ.php

Capgeek's FAQ outlines the entry level slide but it doesn't really address this particular scenario.

I suppose the player and team could agree to "slide" the contract but I'm not sure if this is/was contemplated in the CBA.

how does everyone here feel about Phil Lane? We were in the same graduating class at my high school, I'm just curious if the fan base is excited about him or what the general feelings are among Coyotes fans?

Judging only on his stats and progress year over year Lane appears to be one of the reason KG was replaced. Not a good pick in the second round.

It will be interesting to see if the team decides to invest in trying to develop him or decide to cut bait.

Needless to say it is a pivotal year for Lane.

Visentin left last night's game in the first period after tweeking his groin.

Hopefully just a precautionary thing.

Edit: http://www.niagarafallsreview.ca/Pri...aspx?e=3319058

"On a scale of three, it's a one," Williamson said. "It's an injury which we're not happy about, but I don't think it's a long-term type thing."

Somewhat positive news.
