Pass. I really think he needs a top tier playmaker on his line for to be a stud. With St Louis he's #3 player in the world, without him, I think he's top 25...

Kessel is much the same... he will put the puck in the net but if you only have one person to watch out for, he's not a threat.

Ye, only way I'd want Stamkos is through offersheet. We need Kadri to pair up with him as a replacement for St. Louis.

Although I doubt Stamkos will play for anyone other than the Bolts next season, I am really starting to regard Kipper as credible. It was his interview with Bettman that made me realize that it was Atlanta going to Winnipeg, not Phoenix, over 2 months ago. He's had a jump on a lot of rumours, and I don't give any credibility to anything players say since all they say is spin and the babble their agents and media coaches and handlers tell them to say

Meehan and Guy aren't stupid they know there is more money available if they enter RFA status. There is no way a deal gets done before july 1st.

If anything Yzerman will wait to see what he's worth and either trade his rights or take the 4 picks or match and try to move some other pieces. There has to be a ceiling though!

Stamkos and his agent make an offer that they are happy with and think that the Lightning will sign off on it. Stamkos says a deal is close.

Lightning says not quite and submits a counter offer. Someone leaks that they aren't close.

A deal most likely gets signed anyhow.

Depends on their ownership. Assuming they get Richards, I don't think they would. If they don't, I think they will pretty much match anything.

If only deals like this are that simple and cut and dry... If that were that simple Stammer would've been signed ages ago!

Think about it, Brad Richards is the most sought after FA out there. People are saying he could get 7yrs 8M annually. What do you think teams would throw at Stamkos? You think Meehan and Guy are dumb? there is more money than what Tampa can realistically offer on the open market for SURE and they won't do a deal before July 1st. Chances are TBay will match any offer though

Cocaine. That is the only logical explanation for people's belief that Stamkos will be a Leaf in 2011/12. We have a better shot at Crosby or Ovechkin.

EDIT: And please don't make a new thread, Speculation: Ovechkin to the Leafs? Because now that I've said it, it has as much legs as this thread.

In that deal you're giving up:

1 top 5 pick (Schenn)
1 top 10 pick (Kadri)
and another 1st rounder in 2012

I'd MUCH rather give up 4 first rounders which, with Stamkos in the lineup, are far more likely to be well out of the lottery, and more likely beyond the 20th overall.

I'll take the sure assets in Kadri and Schenn over the future possibilities any day. Even though the idea of us getting Stamkos is absolutely ludicrous to begin with.

I think most are operating under the impression Burke won't sign a guy to an offer sheet but would entertain acquiring a players rights.

I think he'd be willing to make an offersheet if they agreed upon it beforehand.

EG.

Burke and Yzerman talk about an offersheet
Both parties agree
Burke sends out offersheet
Stamkos accepts it
Burke and Yzerman tell the media it was a mutual decision

Someone please just offer sheet him to a ridiculous price just to hurt the Bolts even if they do match it.

Even if I think Stamkos is the answer the Leafs have been looking for since Sundin left it will still be tough to see the Leafs hand 4 first rounders over to Tampa after they sign Richards to a sweetheart of a deal and not miss a beat, saving themselves millions of dollars, remaining in contention, and enjoying an extra 1st round pick anywhere between 10-20 for four years straight.

If he gets to July 1st then offer sheet him.
The leafs are his favourite team. So im sure our offer would be the one he'd accept first. The hard part would be a contract that Tampa would not match.
