Meh, I liked Powe and hoped they would keep him but he's definitely replaceable. Got good value for him and it mostly likely means a spot for one of the AHL's to step into.

I'm not happy or sad really. Good return for what he is. I liked him a lot though and will miss his energy. I'd far rather see CarBomb sent packing, but maybe no-one wants him. We could not sign Carcillo, waive Shelly and have still Sesito, Betts, Nodl, Rinaldo and Holmstrom all fighting for spots on the 4th line

Simmonds is not a PKer, where did this myth come from? He may kill penalties here, but he isn't coming with a rep for doing it.

Go ahead and pencil in Ben Holmstrom into next year's opening night roster

The one time I thought Jack Edwards was cool was when he said.

"There's Powe, the human sound effect"

He was actually quite poor on LA's PK lines.

I see much more than merely bringing up a minor leaguer needed... Two of the Flyers top PKers have been gutted from the team and a third has chronic should problems that has required multiple stints on IR. Giroux will now have to up his minutes and Versteeg as I see it now becomes more secure... Sure players can be plugged in, but not at the level of Powe & Richie... As I said before, I see something in the wings as a signing/deal.

He was non-existent. He wasn't one of their PKers.

Not saying that's not possible, but Mr. Minor Leaguer was player pk time when he got called up for the two games last year. Also top pk on the phantoms, and one of the best in college. I can see them easily looking at Holmstrom to be on the team.

Solid return. I liked Powe, but players like him aren't that hard to plug in.

We've got to be opening up room for a vet defensive forward, though...our offensive corps. is nonexistent defensively right now. Madden, maybe?

Simmonds averaged 5 seconds in PK time this season.

Holmstrom at $750K is pretty much a lock. If we can find a way to get John Madden or something on our 4th line with Sestito, we're set.

What about Blair Betts?

Probably waived to traded in my scenario. Not a Betts hater, but there might not be room for him.

Not a big deal. Powe was a solid player, but I'd take both Nodl and Eric Wellwood over him. Flyers made the right move.

How about Sestito-Betts-Holmstrom if Nodl gets put into the top 9?

Bummer, I always liked Powe. I can see how the space is needed though.

Yeah. It seems he may have only had one shift on the PK, and that might just be because he was in the box during a 5 on 3 and came out.

Which forwards can we really use on the PK?

Giroux and Betts come to mind, as well as Versteeg. After that it's basically a crapshoot, and the 3 listed don't fill me with loads of confidence.

No slight on Holmsrom intended... merely meant that gutting a good chunk of a special team requires more than players getting their bearings in the NHL.

... And also, Powe led the Flyers in hits last season IIRC... I see Powe as being more of a multi-tooled player that was very good in a utility role that cast aside in hopes of his presence not being missed.

Carcidi is now Tweeting that he Flyers couldn't sign him... Personally I believe Sam is full of crap and has no basis on that statement; JMO.

Holy crap... This is no way to improve a PK unit if you ask me... If you are signing experienced UFAs to revamp, fine... If you are re-building and don't expect a run for the Cup, fine... But seriously, waive Bets after trading Richards and Powe.

I liked Powe, but I'm pretty suprised we were able to get a 3rd for him. I think we'll end up signing someone else for the PK.
