Kirk Muller named Ads Coach

Wow. HUGE hire. I thought he was the best Assistant Coach prospect for NHL teams. Good to know our young guys will be receiving top notch coaching.

The truth behind our success - David Poile surrounds himself with outstanding personnel.

Kirk Muller. THE Kirk Muller. A guy who, in every respect, knows what it takes to play in the NHL. This is a sensational hire for the Admirals.

with Horacek getting multiple interviews this year for head coaching spots you have to believe we will have another assistant coaching vacancy in a year or two.

and the beat goes on....

Having watched a ton of Habs games this year, i can tell you most of that teams success, at least from the coaching aspect, can be attributed to Muller.

He drew up plays for teams during timeouts, he coached the powerplay exclusively and was the primary reason they were 7th in the league even without Markov. Plus, as said before, he knows precisely what it takes to be successful in the NHL.

Excellent hire! Kirk Muller brings instant credibility to the Admirals and a resume that will instantly grip the attention of prospects every time he opens his mouth to provide instruction.

If I were a player slated for Milwaukee next season I probably was a little uneasy not knowing who the coach was going to be, but right now I'm stoked and looking forward to starting the year.

Personally, I'll be very interested to watch Muller this week at prospect camp as he evaluates the players.

Very exciting hire. Maybe if he can get the PP to work in Milwaukee, somebody can carry it with them on a call up?

You guys are very lucky that you were the one to land Muller. He was likely one of the top 3 PP specialist of the league and an outstanding communicator. He made Martin look good in Montreal.

I think it's really a strong statement of the strength of the Predators and Admirals organizations that Muller reached out and called Poile himself to start the interview process for the head coaching position.

While I know some will damn Poile for not reaching out to Muller, the guy was in the interview process for 4 NHL head coaching opportunities at the time he called Poile to express interest. They were already interviewing other candidates and Muller thought highly enough of the position that despite being in the running for NHL opportunities he reached out to the Preds to make sure he didn't miss out on this chance.

Trotz mentioned earlier this summer that as soon as the season ended and it was known that Brent Peterson would be moving into another role that he was being bombarded by phone calls from all over the hockey world expressing interest in the open assistant coaching position, but that he knew that Lane Lambert was the guy he wanted for the position. Now we learn that the Preds had fielded an equally impressive number of interview requests for the Admirals position and of all things had one of the top NHL head coaching candidates call them to request and eventually accept the top developmental coaching spot in the organization.

This is a MAJOR hire for the Preds and IMO a strong statement to the level of respect within the hockey community (read: actual hockey personnel, not the hockey media) they get.

The interview never happened. I don't know if it had to be postponed or is just delayed but it wasn't at 3:45. They archive interviews so if you miss it I can link it later.

Also, a two hour edition of Admirals Center Ice will be on at 6 PM tonight. Same link that you provided. I'm sure there will be a lot of Muller talk.

I know. Unfortunately, I've had them on for the past hour...they complain non-stop about everything. It's pretty hard to listen to.

Looking forward to listening to Aaron Sims tonight...

Hey, you're lucky. There are three hosts on this show and one of them is on a golf outing today and he is by far the worst radio host in the history of radio hosts and I'm not even exaggerating.

Also, just saw a picture of Muller from the press conference. He looks like he could still play in the NHL.

Same with Gelinas. There is absolutely ZERO excuse for not being in shape that's going to be accepted for our prospects...

Great guys u just get guys. He will be missed in Montreal. I was hoping one day Jacques Martin would get fired and Kirk Muller would step up to take his place.

Last year we lost Guy Boucher and this year it's Kirk Muller..

Really hopes he'll be able to have success in AHL then NHL. This guy is a gentlemen, I've had the chance to speak with him twice while I was working in a hotel where he stayed. You will defenitely love the man and the coach.

As a semi-outsider I don't know why coaches and management from other organizations wouldn't be impressed with the Predators organization. To be honest the Predators remind me a lot of the Rays in MLB. Building around players that were drafted and developed and around defense and goaltending (pitching in the Rays case).

Without speaking blasphemy could this be an eventual exit plan for Trotz?

I didn't see this coming. I saw it on the ticker on the NHL channel and had to wait for it to come around again just to make sure I was seeing Kirk Muller and Milwaukee in the same sentence. He seemed so excited in the interviews/press conference. Seems like a good hire!

Does anyone know if Muller will keep the same staff in Milwaukee or hire his own guys?

Ian Herbers is under contract as the assistant in Milwaukee for another season, so it appears he is staying on as Muller's assistant for the time being.

No other word on whether Muller will make any staff changes yet.
