It's only a year if Gorges accepts the QO (which he won't).

This was just a formality to retain his rights so they can work on a (hopefully longer term) deal.

How much was he making last year, was it 1.5? That's low. Whether he accept or not, PG should man up and give him at least 2.5 per/for 3 years.

An NHL team is permitted to have 50 players in its organization. Have the Habs reached their limit?

I expected them to re-sign Carle. He had a good year with HAM and played his most games yet I believe. His biggest issue is staying healthy to continue to progress. He still has some upside if he can shake the injuries and he's still young. I don't put much stock in him clearing waivers meaning he has no value. From my understanding, if a team picks him up they basically have to keep him in the NHL because they would have to put him on waivers also where MON can reclaim him and then send him to the AHL.

They just let go 3 guys so I doubt they are at 50 contracts...

Regarding Gorges and a long term deal. I think the Polak contract in STL is a good comparison. I don't think he should make more than Polak, and he got 2.75 per. So 2.75 or less is my guess for Gorges.

Sorry, that's what I meant by re-signed. I know he doesn't have a contract yet (he never signed the qualifying offer did he?), but I expect it to happen. No reason to give up on him yet. There's still some upside there. Needs to stay healthy though.

Even lower. 1.1M.

And I'd love a 3 year, 2.5M deal. 3M and above I'd be uncomfortable with, even if the difference is only 500K.

Again, only a formality. I could see someone like Carle accepting his QO, but other than that, not very likely.

All a QO is is a formality so they become an RFA on July 1st. If not offered a QO, then they become UFAs.

Carle also received a QO as well as Russell.

Not quite: http://www.capgeek.com/reserve_lists...2&year_id=2011

I'd say they're at 41 now after you take away the players they chose to let go.

I'd lean towards yes, but I wouldn't bet on that yet.

Is this Gorges last RFA year?

I was wondering why they didn't have a deal done yet. IMO something like 3 years $7.5m would be fair. I don't think he's earned 3 million a year yet. I'd sign him even longer at $2.5 a year but I don't think he'd take a longer term deal unless the yearly payout was bigger.

10 million over 4 years. That's what I would give to Gorges.

The guy is bleeding blue-white and red.

Yeah I know, he can refuse the QO and sign a different contract. I just figured he would've been signed by now, high priority guy on the team, one of the leaders.
